With a cup of coffee in hand I am here at work bright and early at 6am. If I didn't enjoy coming to work everyday it would be hard to climb out of a nice cozy warm bed and especially in the winter. Even though some people set their goals on the money I prefer to enjoy what I do and want to feel like I am adding value otherwise why do it? So jumping out of bed and heading down to Rentec Direct (property management software headquarters) is not a chore for me, because I love what I do.
I believe if you don't love what you do no matter how successful you are and no matter how much money you are making you should probably consider doing something else. We have to think that we spend a whole heck a lot of hours at work, in fact we spend over 40% of the time we are awake at work. (Scarey, isn't it?) If you happen to be a one of those who run your own business (which is most of you) you are probably spending even more time on/at work. Do you want to spend the majority of your life not enjoying it?
Of course you might be good or even great at the mechanics of something that you have knowledge of but particularly don't enjoy. But that only lasts for awhile. In every industry we see things rapidly changing and to stay good at it and on top of your game you need to be constantly paying attention to the changes and constantly learning. If you don't enjoy it, it is going to be tough for you to WANT to learn and grow in something you don't really have passion in.
Speaking of passion. You can't fake it! We can pretend/fake alot of things but passion is not one of them. If you are in a leadership role or sales it is hard to inspire others if you are uninspired. Unless you have brushed up on your actinging skills it will be difficult to create passion in others that you yourself are lacking.
Most of us have a variety of career paths or professionals that fit both our values and desires, it might be a good time to evaluate if what we are doing is pleasure or pain. Since we spend most of our lives at work, why not find something that you love to do. Do you love what you do?
