Like The Posts You Read! - Pay It Forward!

I always like to "like" the posts and comments I read.   I think it was a great idea to give points for this - If I bother to take the time to read a post, it is usually a good one.  I will always "like" it.  If I have read a comment, I will usually "like" it.

I simply feel it is paying it forward - lots of good karma and good will to pass around.

It takes an extra second, and makes someone feel pretty good.

What do you think about the "like" button?

"LIKE" IT?

I am adding this  later -

To me, "liking a comment is equivalent to saying "Good Morning!" to someone....   It never hurts much, and it's nice to do.   Will someone notice if you don't?    Probably not.  Will they notice if you do?   Also probably not.   It's a nice thing in a ghostly kind of way - no one knows you did it!   (Maybe like giving to the food bank...anonymously)

Couldn't agree with you more, Dagny.  I like to think of it as proper ActiveRain etiquette.

Dagny, I agree with you completely.  There are other little things you can do like subscribing to posts on another's blog if you don't mind the extra email notifications (you can always hit delete unless the discussion generated by the blog is lively).  Lots of ways to pay it forward, great idea.

Make it a great week.

Wow!   Thanks to so many of you!   I guess this is not a controversial post !    I am glad so many Rainers are all about paying it forward.     To me, it is fun to go through a post and hit the like buttons - each person took the extra time to post a comment, so I can certainly acknowledge them!

Good morning Dagny. I couldn't agree any more. It simply is a nice way to affirm someone. Why not?

Interesting - I just had to comment - very few of you "liked" the comments in this post!    It does take an extra moment to do, but that is the premise of any "Pay it Forward".   Takes effort, and you don't see the payback.   It comes around eventually.

Well sometimes there is too much liking, too much tagging  & all for the points, Dagny...if it is sincere it is worthwhile.

To me, Ginny Gorman , it is equivalent to saying "Good Morning!"  to someone you don't know very well.   It's a little added value that doesn't cost me much.    It certainly doesn't hurt anyone, but may be what they needed to make a difference.

If I read a post that prompts me to comment then I almost always hit "like". The only exception is if I disagree with the bloggers's message in the post. If I don't agree with the post I can still comment and give my rebuttal to the blog but that doesn't mean I "liked" it.

Likely Dagny, the Like button will change as it means one thing to us and was to identify feature worthy posts. It doesn't necessarily do both.

Dagny my favorite way to doing things...not wanting recognition for doing something that is "doing the right thing" hence I do not support the "pay it forward aka. pat myself on the back contests or post" Endre

Hi Dagny - I read an article a few months back about how the author had stopped using the "like" button on social media.  Instead, he began commenting where he would have otherwise just clicked the button.  The article was about how it changed his interactions on social media.  I decided to try it too and haven't clicked "like" until this article.  I re-evaluated my position and think that "like" helps the author and I'm commenting anyways so no harm, no foul :)  Great post
