Hi folks!

I'm planning on launching my new video blog eastside.in over the weekend.  A couple realtors from Brio Realty and I will be showcasing the best of Seattle's Eastside, including restaurants, shops, people, events, and of course real estate!

Although it is a bit scary I am thrilled to embark on this journey. This first video blog below is an introductory video, shot at Kirkland's Marina Park, and accompanying me is Brio's Nina Knaevelsrud. I hope you enjoy it!!!

Sara...  Great idea,  The thought of getting in front of a camera and highlighting features in my area is a bit intimidating but video certainly looks like the way to go for the future.

Sara...talk about scared.  I almost felt like vomiting just thinking about going out and interviewing people on the street with my video camera.  I think videoing yourself talking is SO hard if you're not used to it...I'm sure that with time we'll get more and more comfortable behind the camera...great start to your project...

Sara, I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you were. The video is great, you are such a natural, but we know that from the Inman Conference where you did those interviews. Career change?

Good job.  So, are you going to start featuring vegetarian restaurants?  You know that they are right up your alley.

Hi Deborah! We had fun! ;)

Dan, true true true!!! Very intimidating!!! We did quite a few run throughs before I could stop bursting out in laughter, but I have to share that Nina is a natural... very comfortable in front of the camera. I was shaking in my boots (and I

Bob, "scared" doesn't begin to cover it!! I think my best consolation was that no one was going to be watching it... eheheh since Eastside.in is just starting out, it can't have much of a following yet! ;) BUT THEN, BUT THEN, to my horror, SOMEONE FEAUTURED IT ON AR!!!!! LOL, no really, it was the kindest gesture possible, and I'm ecstatic it got featured, (It wasn't my husband who featured it, I asked, and generally speaking, because I'm married to him, he is adverse to featuring me because he doesn't want to appear to be misusing his position). So some one else did!!!! (THANK YOU, BTW!!! You know who you are, and I'm sure I'll find out some time)  :)

Does it get easier? I don't know... I sure hope so. It's tough being out in public, video-recording, because everyone stares at you!!!

Missy, NO!!! Not a career change!!! Thank you for the kind words, however! :) You're the sweetest!!!!

I never know what I should share and not share (I think I error on the side of sharing too much! But I guess that's me..) When I did the AR Lounge videos at Inman Connect, it went something like this:

Jon told me about this fantastic idea he had to shoot videos of AR members at Inman Connect. I said, "WOW, that's fantastic!!!" And then, maybe a week (or a couple days before), he says to me, "Well, we don't have anyone to do the videos, so I think you should do it".  Panic!!! Panic galore!!! I resisted. "Ugh, bad idea, I don't know anything about interviewing anyone, and I'm scared to death about damaging a sincerely good AR reputation". I didn't want to make AR look stupid, heheh. When the day finally came, I was basically just trying to survive. Coming up with simple questions to keep the interviews going became as difficult as changing a tire when you've never done it before. It's really weird what happens to people when they get behind the camera.... they freeze, and I understand that intimately well! heheh

Hi Monika!!! Making it a community blog gives me a lot more to talk about! I'm hoping people will tune in not just for houses, but because they enjoy seeing what's going on in the community. I'd like to be someone they'd feel comfortable with, and I'm hoping that online rapport will develop as a result.

  Hi Sara,

Great idea with the Vlog. I have thought about this for a while but have never done it.

I am also a real estate agent and fan of the Beautiful Lake Washington's Eastside. I tend to be a little bias to the North Eastside because that's where I live.

A few ideas for your upcoming Vlogs

  • "What's Coming on the Eastside" IE: $15 Million dollars allocated to Kirkland Juanita Beach Park. These kind of posts should help show the value in areas you report on.
  •  "Eastside History, How it came to be" EI: Why is Bellevue called Bellevue?
  • One of my Families favorite places is St Edwards Park. Great place for a date, Swimming, Kids,  Field sports, Hiking, view of Europian style Catholic seminary, Brewfest on Fathers Day Weekend, Haunted Trails during Halloween season and much more. Located off Juanita way.

These are just a few. I am going to subscribe and watch future Eastside.in Vlogs

Hi Cyndee! ooooh! I have to check out your video!!!!!! Thanks for your warm encouragement, very generous words!!! It means a lot to me!! :) (Funny, isn't it, now it's hard imagining not using video in real estate, even though I just started!!!)

Hi Lane!!!! Yes, lots of yummy vegetarian restaurants!!!! And vegan ones too. And organic ones, and restaurants that care about sustainable sources. Those will be my favorite to feature, and I am excited that's there's so many superb ones around here!!! Jon and I were just talking about it yesterday, the Seattle-Bellevue area has some of the best restaurants!!! (I'm trying to figure out how to feature the Seattle-based restaurants/stores into eastside.in, as they aren't on the eastside. I might do a weekly "venturing out" post...

Sarah,

Nice job! What equipment did you use for your blog? I can see the mic - was that hard to get going?

Hi Thomas,

I own a flip camera, which I've been using a bit, but this filming is done with a Canon XHA1 HDV 1080i using Sennheiser wireless equipment for the mic. (Mic-Sennheiser e834, Mic wireless attachment Sennheiser SKP 100 G2, wireless camera attachment Sennheiser ew 100 G2)

If you visit a good quality professional camara store (call ahead to make sure they also carry camera eqipment), the staff usually are photographers/videographers themselves, and they give invaluable advice as to what equipment you may want for your level of commitment and your task at hand. (It may take a little bit of research and you may have to travel out of your usual area to find a store that caters to those who do it for a living, but usually the knowledge level is higher and invaluable, as the staff have intimate knowledge of the equipment and often have used it themselves..)

I like the flip camera because it's non-invasive and you won't get asked funny questions (a person thought I was a news reporter once, LOL), and I can be quite shy..
