Is your Broker a Leader or a Manager?

Is your Broker a Leader or a Manager?

Do you know the difference between a “Leader” and a “Manager” ? The definition of a Leader is a person who guides or directs a group. The definition of a Manager is a person responsible for controlling or administering all or part of a company or similar organization.

For the longest time I thought these two labels were interchangeable. They are not! Think about your Broker for a minute and what best describes their function.

If it’s a "Manager" I’d be looking for a new Brokerage firm. Our “Leader”, Teresa Recar, is a bright light that shines the way for us...zigging and zagging and nurturing an environment of sharing and gratitude! Our office is made up of agents who love what they do, enjoy giving back to our communities and like to work and play together!

Operating from a transformational perspective, sharing information and data and keeping up on industry trends is a full time commitment. Crediting others with victories and sharing in disappointments goes hand in hand with embracing change and setting new goals to fit our ever changing landscape of real estate.

We are proud to have a colleague in our office moving into the Presidential role of our 2015 Austin Board of Realtors®.  Barb Cooper addressed many topics at our sales meeting covering our new ABOR Facility, change to larger lockboxes and the ever present grab by others outside the industry to take over our position as controlling real estate transactions. She made the comment “If you’re not at the table, you’ll be on the Menu.”  How poignant! Our "Leader" made sure we had this chance to hear all that Barb has to offer in her position and applauds her efforts!

It’s the end of 2014 and soon 2015 will be starting. Are you in the right environment to be successful in real estate? Is your Broker a "Leader "or a "Manager?" It’s a good question to be asking and honestly evaluating your answer. It might be time for a change! You can always call Teresa at 512-343-7550 for a confidential interview. She does make a difference!

Dorie, managing is a lot easier than leading.  You can manage even those who do not want to be managed, but you can't lead those who do not want to follow.  Leaders are few.  Managers are a dime a dozen.

Yes there is a difference. I would like to add one more into the mix and that is do you respect your broker? Now that is a whole different topic to discuss. You sound like you respect and trust yours.

Managers and leaders have very different attitudes towards goals and relations with other people. It does not bad to have one or another, they are simply different.
