The Marshall's Annual Christmas Party - You are all invited - I can't believe it is that time of year again, seems like we just did this. My wife Jennifer and I are not really sure when it all started, long before my real estate career, I know, but it is something we look forward to each and every season, our Annual Christmas Party. And this year I want to invite everyone here on Activerain to join us, we will figure out how to fit everyone.
For the past 25 years or so we have hosted a Christmas party, it started out as just friends, and then when we moved we invited our cul-de-sac so we could get to know them better, and they all said, "what a great idea, we have lived here for X-number of years and never have done anything like this".
I had gotten my real estate license the year of our move and one of my coaches said you need to have a client appreciation party each year to show your appreciation, so we combined the two. We just started inviting clients, our invite list grew to over 400 names and we would routinely have 120-150 people come through for our parties. (We also host an annual BBQ with a similar number of people in attendance, and one year we just did not have time to host the summer event, one of the guests greeted us at the door for the Christmas Party and said "We were so glad that we were invited to your Christmas Party since we were not invited to the annual BBQ, we thought we must have done something to offend you guys").
It is funny what happens when you start a tradition, we felt bad that we did not have the party during the summer, but did not realize we might be offending people in the process, it looks like we are committed to doing this until we move from the area. We had a wonderful friend and past neighbor stop by last night with her annual Cranberry bread, MMMM-MMMM Good! and her regrets, she will not be able to attend this year due to family situations, but we were very thrilled to hear her say that in her mind this is "the Big Event" of the season. How nice! People are always so thoughtful and want to bring us gifts, and honestly we do not need anything, so along with our invitation, we ask that anyone wanting to bring a gift can bring a non-perishable food item or diapers and we will make sure they get to those that can really use them this time of year.
We just love having people around and enjoy catching up, it seems in Colorado anyway that once Halloween rolls around everyone pretty much keeps to themselves until mid-April. I know life is short and want to enjoy every minute of it, so as long as I am around there will be Christmas Parties, summer BBQ's, weekend happy hours, and whatever else we can think of to socialize.
If you are not doing anything this Saturday after 5:00 and you are in the Denver area, send me a private note and I will give you directions. Oh and one nice bonus that comes from these parties is that there are 8 homes on our cul-de-sac, I have sold 6 of them, two of them twice, and the other two have not moved since we have lived here. Maybe I need to host a party in every cul-de-sac???
