A day in the Property Management life...

I'd have to say a few (if not all of these) are pretty valid illustrations.  Much like the "Realtors work a few hours and get big ol' commission checks!" belief many seem to have, a number of misconceptions about Property Management-land remain as well.

So what might you add?  Whether Property Management or "sales side" Realtors, what are some of the misconceptions you encounter?

...And perhaps more importantly, what are some of them you've held?

In the beginning of the relationship, most owners think my fees are too high. After a while they feel my fees are too low :)

Hi, Bob:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  I think I could probably add a few things to it- "What owners think I do", "What vendors/contractors think I do", etc.. but this sums it up pretty well!

Hi, Winston:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment.  Surely good to know what others think of us.  Now, whether we let that change us is another story...

Hi, Doug:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  Yep, I've had that as well.  I think it comes with the territory- unless you're the absolute cheapest in your area in terms of price- regardless the level of service you provide- folks will find that one guy who is the lowest and use his fees as a benchmark.

Don't know that I've ever understood that, quite frankly- simply using lowest price without regard to services or their quality- but it's the determining factor more often than is should be.

Sort of like an HVAC shop around here says- it's best to buy the highest quality product you can- which may very well come at the higher/highest price.  But when your neighbor is replacing his crappy unit a few years down the road, you're still "saving" money from the day you bought yours!
