Hail and Wind Damage to home - How to work with Insurance Co?

By

Any advice would be appreciated.  I have put in a claim for damage to my roof.

The insurance adjuster comes out - Yep there's damage BUUUUTTTT...... and there always is a but isn't there.

They want to cover damage minus depreciation and deductible.

How do you know if what they are doing is fair??

Most of my neighbors have received new roofs.  NONE have complained that they had to go out of pocket for repairs....

They have gotten upgraded roofs as a matter of fact.  Most have gotten new gutters too.  SO, today I receive a check for not near enough to put on a new roof.  I shouldn't be putting on a new roof for 10 years or more, so WHY is it that I should be out thousands of dollars.  This just doesn't seem right. What is insurance for anyway??

How do I check if what they have figured is appropriate?

April,

I would get another appraisal and call your insurance agent immediately and state your case.

Thanks Steve,

I am going to call out a roofer for an estimate.
