As my husband drove me to Sacramento International airport last week to embark upon my month-long journey wandering about the South Pacific, he related a story about the macadamia nut lady and Korean Airlines. A Koren Air executive, and daughter of Koren Air Chairman, was furious because the flight attendant handed Ms. Cho an unopened package of macadamia nuts instead of serving the nuts in a bowl. Not only did she throw a hissy fit and swear at them, but she made the pilot turn the plane around so she could kick off the fired flight attendant at the gate. Inconvenienced every passenger on the plane.
This is such excessive entitlement and so completely over-the-top, that I will forever remember this story and hold it up as an example of how no dissatisfied customer in a million years would ever want to be perceived. I am not about to complain about a lack of in-room slippers or Greek yogurt when I have a fabulous view at the Moana Surfrider and a beautiful spacious room in Honolulu. It wasn't the desk clerk's fault that I was not entirely happy with my room upon check-in, and he helped me out. I could not be more grateful for the assistance. Granted, it's not the Four Seasons, but it's acceptable and quite lovely. This is a historic hotel in Honolulu. Too many people for me, but I'm only here for a few days. It's still an adventure!
