Valentines Day is the day that many around the world express feelings of the heart, their love and forgiveness. Today my expressions of love were to my wife, mother, sisters, niece and granddaughters.

However, my thoughts turned to forgiveness and the church sermon on "Forgiveness". The text was not limited to forgiving those we love, it included those with whom we have a bond, for whatever reason. Even people in distant lands whom we may never meet.

I understand that people who cause us pain, do so out of their own personal suffering. They have given control to the source of their pain and in so doing they disconnect from the spirit. Their personal suffering feeds off of the absence of forgiveness

Forgiveness is essential to freeing ourselves from the grips of anger and hatred. We have a choice, not to be burdened with anger and hatred and with God's grace we ask, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". They are blinded by the disconnect from the spirit and consumed by rage. Their healing comes from knowing God, God's grace and his forgiveness.

In the Lord's prayer Jesus gave instruction in how to pray.  Part of that is "Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us" and then in Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus went on to say, " For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Jesus taught again on forgiving others in the parable of the "Unjust Servant". A king forgave a man his debt to the king.  The man then would not forgive the debts that others owed him.  He had the one that owed him money thrown into jail. The king then became angry and had the man also thrown into jail until he paid the debt that had been forgiven him. Jesus went on to say in MT 18:35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

Again in Mark 11:25, Jesus instructs us, "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. " and in Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."

If we truly have accepted our forgivness from God, our heart has been cleansed and is pure, we have a heart of agape love for others, we want to forgive other because God's love is flowing through us to others.  That is how we conform to the likeness of Christ.

Thanks for the post, sorry....didn't mean to rattle so.
