The Mark Lanegan Band at Webster Hall

Last month I went down to NYC to see former Screaming Trees front man, Mark Lanegan at Webster Hall.  The show took place in one of the smaller upstairs rooms called the Marlin Room where you could stand up and get close to the band.

I really enjoy going to shows at Webster Hall, not only for the bands they book,  but it's also an easy drive down from Westchester and parking is usually available (which you know is at a premium in NYC).  Webster Hall is an intimate experience, unlike huge places like Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  Mark Lanegan is such a nice-guy, he even sat and signed autographs for his many fans after the show.

Speaking of his show, Mark is a powerful singer and has a talented full band behind him.  This was his first full band tour in two years and he was supporting his new album Phantom Radio, the ninth under his name, which includes a song I really like called, Floor of the Ocean.

I think that Mark and his band have an almost Pearl Jam quality to their sound.  One album reviewer even compared him to Tom Waits and said his distinctive baritone voice is “scratchy as a three-day beard, yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather” – a cool and apt description.

I have never been to the Webster.  It sounds like fun.

Jeff, it's a great place to see a show.
