Carlsbad continues to grow, with a number of new communities and subdivisions having been built in the last decade or so. Like so many Southern California communities, housing is expensive, but less so here in Carlsbad than in the neighboring beach towns to the south like Encinitas, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar and La Jolla.  An important thing to know is that Carlsbad has a Smart Growth plan that has been in place for many years in order to control the town’s growth, and to focus on transportation issues, walkability, housing (apartments, affordable homes), maintaining open space for all to enjoy, and managing development to avoid over-building.
Carlsbad homes at Heron Bay offer wonderful views of the hills, the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon, and the distant ocean. Surrounded by protected habitat conservation space, this undated community of homes was built in 2004 on the hills to the east of the lagoon off Cannon Road. Homes rangee in size from about 2800 SF up to a little over 3500 SF, with 4 or 5 bedrooms and 3 to 4.5 baths. Currently there are 6 Carlsbad homes for sale in Heron Bay, ranging in price from $899,900 to $1,294,876 (sizes range from 2856 SF up to 3531 SF, with 4 or 5 baths and 3 to 4.5 baths).
