There is a cool blog, and this is the first blog post by a new member. Wonderful. And there is a pretty good response, 9 comments, which is good even for seasoned bloggers on Active Rain.
What surprises me, however, is that after several days there is no response, no comment from the author, no acknowledgement that she even saw these 9 comments.
I assume she did, as I remember how hyped I was simply when I started in 2007 by the fact, that someone left a comment on my blog.
But if this is the case, why not acknowledge it?
The key of being on Active Rain to me is communication. You write, people read, share their opinions, their views, their encouragement, and you read and respond. If you do not do it, you would eventually find that people would not follow you. There will be only occasional members stumbling into your posts, but you will not have the readership.
It is not really communication. Those, who are on AR for some serious period of time, know it. New members may not know it and may not understand it. And I believe it should be a two ways street. Anything else is a dead end.
The mistake some new members make is that they believe that by writing cool blogs they will have a flow of readers and followers no matter what. So far I have yet to see who could write so brilliantly, that all others would agree to follow without a hope on being engaged. If I do not get a feel that someone is talking to me, I would stop talking to you. Nothing against you, but if I think I am talking to a wall, and not sure whether the author even checks the posts for comments, why would I be doing it? I wouldn’t. It is like turning to a Dead End Rd. hoping to drive through...
Don’t take dead end.
Communicate.
