In This Real Estate Market, You Need Deep Roots

"Bloom where you're planted." I saw this Barrel Cactus high up on a rock outcropping in the Tortillita mountains.

Not all success comes from being planted in fertile, cultivated soil. The tiny seed that is now this hundred pound giant fell between the rocks.

It found enough wind-blown soil, moisture and shade to germinate. It began to send out roots, looking to anchor itself in place. Once anchored, its roots probed every crack and crevice in the rockface in its never-ending search for nourishment and moisture.

I feel a kinship with this successful Barrel Cactus in today's Real Estate market. And look! It's wearing a crown of yellow blooms that have matured into fruit.

Mike, this is a powerful message. Thank you for the blog and the picture. I would say that if we looked closer at most success stories, we would find more of the qualities demonstrated by this cactus than the proposition that success came with ease.

We can survive and thrive anywhere given the will to do so. Great message, buddy. Keep 'em coming!

Mike, I think the concept of deep roots and lack of water at the surface is very appropriate for Realtors in survival mode in this market. Very good thought.

Great photo. It reminds me of the palms that grown between cracks in concrete here in SoCal. I see it every now and then. It always makes me think how strong they must be to survive in that situation. A great metaphor for life.

Mike- This is wonderfully written and a gorgeous photo of a cactus that once started out as a seed, God is amazing!

Do I have to say it several time or is once enough . Good post and I got the message. I may have to go fertilize some of my past clients tomorrow.

Mike - nice photo. The example of tenacity, perseverance and faith in one's ability to thrive in challenging circumstances can be seen often in our beautiful desert--and I like to think it rubs off of the human populace (as long as you don't "rub up" on the cacti that show these qualities)!

Mike - first off, what a beautiful photo! Second, many are getting part-time jobs to help out until the market swings around - it is indeed a difficult time for all!
