Christmas House

Let's face it - this week is history. You've done all that you possibly can. Nobody could expect any more.

Today is Christmas Eve.

Any problems you haven't solved yet can definitely wait until Friday, or actually even Monday. The title guys are gone, their offices closed - the same for all of the government types. Even the good lenders have called it a day (the bad ones disappeared days ago - but don't worry, they'll certainly be back).

The only clients likely to call you are the insane or extremely needy ones, and there's nothing you can do to help them right now. If you give in and try to deal with them, they'll just get inside your head and mess with your "goodwill toward men". You know they'll still be here on Monday - what, are they going to call another agent?

Nobody is going to question your professionalism or your dedication. Look around you - the only ones left here are the OCD nutjob down the hall and the guy who got kicked out of his house and has been living in the office for the last 6 weeks, bathing in the restroom and eating his meals from the snack machine (if you like this guy, you could take him home for the holidays). Everybody else is out of here and you should be too.

The people who love you are waiting at home, as they patiently have all year. They're still getting ready for Christmas, maybe finishing wrapping presents, or making yummy things in the kitchen. They would love to have you home with them the next four days - your being there for them will help make this Christmas extra special - one of the truly memorable ones, for all of you.

So wrap it up, and head home. And before you walk in that door, turn off the damn cell phone - and leave it off. Stay away from your e-mail for the next couple of days too. Trust me - for a few days, you can let it go.

Instead, use those powerful skills you have to focus.... on this:

Merry Christmas

to you and your loved ones.

Very Merry Christmas to you too - I just sent an offer off to the buyer to sign - but my husband is taking a nap and my daughter is at her exercise class - trying to get my AR reading done!

Dick, you have the right idea!  Today is for getting reading for a little Christmas Eve dinner with friends.  Just told a client we'd talk on Friday.  Felt good.

Dick, I am definitely working today.  I'm closing out a file that recorded yesterday ... removing the lockbox and enjoying every moment of the day, including doing some laundry and house cleaning to prepare for Christmas brunch with my son tomorrow.  It's all good.

Dick,

I agree with you, and I love your menu which you told Debb about!  We usually made lasagna bolognese (from scratch for the Superbowl party we had with our Napa friends).  I love doing that.  Wouldn't is be nice to go to Debb Janes for cioppino, at our home for lobster risotto, and yours for the lasagna...I am getting full just thinking about it.

Wishing you a delightful weekend and lots of rest.  A

Repeat after me....they'll still be there on Monday, they'll still be there on Monday...(ironically, while in the middle of reading this, my husband called about a loan person we're working with who suddenly has all of these things he needs "asap", like a copy of my license which is at the damned office and I am NOT heading there til Monday!--Bah Humbug....) Now I have to go check on a house to see if the electricity is back on (after I turned the water back on at the home yesterday and signed off on the electrical inspection) for the appraiser who is coming TOMORROW!

Happy Holidays from your friend at Fishhawk Lake!

Dick this was funny but also excellent advice.  By the way a great gift for the guy living out of his office would be to take him home and let him use the shower :)

Merry Christmas to you, Mary, and your four legged room mates :)

I definitely remember this post....and really, even if you don't have immediate family in the area, sometimes, you just need to let it go for a day or two.
