A valuable lesson from a used car dealer

So I have been in the market for a new car.  I have been trying to figure out what I want by going to different dealers and testing out cars that I like.  What I discovered has changed my ways of thinking forever.

So I went to this dealership, which I thought was very nice.  It was an unusually great experience at a used car dealership.  What this guy had done was pick a niche and mastered it.  He only sold used Mercedes-Benz.  Not only did he sell them, he also had a huge repair facility where you could fix your Mercedes-Benz.

I'll tell you how this made an impact on me.  First of all, have you ever gone to buy a car and asked the sales person to explain its different features, only to have them say they don't know what that does as it is their first time in that kind of car?

Well this guy obviously had been in every Mercedes possible.  He told me unique features that this particular vehicle had and how that would benefit me.  It was truly a unique experience.

So I have learned about my business and how I needed to change mine.  You can't be everything to all people.  You will be far more successful by picking a niche and mastering it like this Mercedes Guy.

What benefits will come your way from picking a niche?  Your advertising will be more effective because you can target specifically to those who are interested in your niche.  You will become the expert of that niche. And we all know that experts get more clients and a higher pay than just anyone.

If you think niches are a bad way to go you are wrong!  Niches are what will make you stand out above the rest and more people will want to work with you.

Now you have two choices to make.  One you can keep trying to be all to everyone, which really means fighting everyone else or, you can be a master at selling to a niche.

Definitely some good advice.  Don't dilute your effectiveness by trying to be all things to all people!  Stick to one group, and your business from ALL groups will increase over time.

Nice job Bronson.

Too often I see agents that are working miles away from an area where they know the market or the community.    They can't answer questions about those communities.

Those of us who work a specific area, know our community and the developments, schools, jobs, traffic, etc.   The neighborhood niche.

Hobbs/Herder Marketing strongly empahsizes that we should find a niche.  Neurosurgeons specialize in brains.  Proctologists specialize in bowels.  You wouldn't want your proctologist performing brain surgery now would you!  Same thing in real estate.

There's a guy out there that calls himself the condo king.  He specializes in selling condos and that's all he sells, and he makes a fortune selling high-rise condos.  (By the way, who called him the condo king in the first place?  ... He did; he called himself the condo king and everybody believed him).

So find a niche and work it!
