Is This The Best Campsite on the Oregon Coast?

Tillicum Beach Campground

The Oregon Coast has some spectacular scenery and camping opportunities, but I've yet to find a better spot than space #17 at Tillicum Beach Campground in the Siuslaw National Forest.

The Forest Service campground is located between Yachats and Newport on the Central Oregon Coast.

The site offers 180 degree ocean views up and down the sandy beaches just below the campsite.  The fresh sea air is invigorating and the sound of the surf offers white noise for sound sleeping at night.  On cloudless nights, the stars are bright and plentiful.

Siuslaw National Forest CampgroundAll this is available for a fraction of the price you'd pay for a hotel room.  If you have a Golden Age Passport, the cost is even less.  Reservations can be made for any of the 61 available camping sites on the Reserve America website up to six months in advance.

Site 17 has water and bathrooms across the street in this National Forest Campground.  Spaces are available with RV hookups, but not with the million dollar views.

Tent Camping on the Oregon CoastMy wife and I are still young enough to prefer tent camping, albeit in a 10-man tent with a queen-size fold-out frame, comfortable air mattress, and lots of blankets and sleeping bags to keep us warm if needed.

In 2003, we were campground hosts in the White Mountains of Arizona, living in a large tent with carpeting, dresser drawers, and a separate outdoor kitchen.  Deer and elk were our neighbors.  We had nothing and we had everything.

There is a lot to see and explore up and down the Coast from this campsite, but the best part is to sit and watch yet anther spectacular sunset unfold in front of you.  I have my reservations in for the coming months.  How about you?Oregon Coast Sunset

Rick! What a discovery you are! So excited that you became a subscriber so that I could come over and see this glorious post. I've bookmarked this as I do a weekly series called Tuesday Travelogue. I am making my way through the US, one state at time and spotlighting terrific posts with wonderful photos that I can show off to other readers here in the Rain.

I am now "following" you and look forward to much more "eye-candy"!! (From one photographer to another...Oregon is ENDLESS is giving us that).

Hello Rick.  Yes that view takes priority over RV parking anytime.  The Oregon coast is so beautiful.  When heading north thru California it is almost as if a line was drawn at the northern border and the coastline almost immediately changes distinctyly.  Darn nice photos,  Mark

My father wasn't able to come with us on our camping trip on Memorial Day weekend, so I've booked a Fourth of July trip in 2015.
