Are you so boring.. people don't listen?

Have you ever been around someone who just talked and talked and talked and talked and…well…you get the idea!

They droned on forever without ever coming to the point…or any point. Now, is it possible that this person was once you?  We’ve all bored other people at one time or another.

At a first contact meeting, we don’t have the luxury of doing this! Therefore, here is an exercise that will help you kick the “I can be boring blues!”

Do this exercise when you are alone.

 1) Think about a book, movie, or TV show that you recently

read or saw.

2) Take two minutes to describe the show or book, out loud.

3) Pause, compose your thoughts and then do the same thing

again in one minute!

4) Pause, compose your thoughts and do your review in 30


The ability to be brief and offer a concise version of any story, especially your personal stories can be the most profound communication change you may ever make.

By making your stories shorter you give the listener the opportunity to have you elaborate on what you have just shared with them. If they don’t ask for more, you may have just offered the right amount of information!

People who tell long stories while the rest of the group experiences their eyes glazing over are never perceived as attractive and are avoided. This simple exercise, done regularly, makes you instantly more easy to listen to…. And less boring.

When I'm in a group I do very little talking, when I do speak, people listen.  I avoid telling long stories and try not to be boring.  When I'm working with a client or another agent I try to be a good listener and not do all the talking.

Analytical individuals always listen, pause to reflect and usually give a thought provoking analogy!

I have an office mate, who will not shut up, and usually talks without thinking of what came out of her mouth.  I've learned from her to become much more analytical, due to the fact, that usually if I say something, she will go on and on and on and on!  So now, I reflect twice, if not triple as much, before i say anthing else!!!

I guess the reason God gave us two ears.... and one mouth, was so we could use them in that proportion.

That being said..... there's nothing wrong with talking, as long as what you're saying is succinct and to the point.
