La Costa Town Square in La Costa, Carlsbad is Now Open

The controversial La Costa Town Square is now open in South Carlsbad, in the La Costa area.

The La Costa Town Square in Carlsbad CAThe La Costa Town Square has been the center of attention, from a building perspective, for a number of years, with concerns about loss of open space, more traffic and congestions, and impact on the environment.

This ambitious development was ultimately approved by the City of Carlsbad, and construction started in December of 2013.

La Costa Town Square is not complete yet but many stores are open, anchored by Vons. And a quick drive by over the holidays showed a lot of activity and an amazing change to the Carlsbad landscape.

The La Costa Town Square is now open in La Costa, Carlsbad CAThere are two new home communities in place adjacent to La Costa Town Square, in addition to office space being built.

Arterro is located just to the east off La Costa Avenue (take a tour of these beautiful homes by clicking the link).

The Montecina neighborhood is being built across from La Costa Town Square on Rancho Santa Fe Road – stay tuned for my review of this community.

Yes, the La Costa Town Square is close to some homes that were built some years ago, and no doubt there will be more traffic in the area.  But residents in La Costa now have another upscale shopping option besides the Forum and another grocer, in addition to Sprouts just a short distance away from the mall.

Looks like a great town square in Carlsbad and how smart of the town planners to do it...best of luck in the new year, Jeff!

I have not explored it yet but it looks like a pretty nice shopping area, with all that area residents need.

Thanks for stopping by

Happy New Year!

I love the concept of Town Squares and localized shopping.  Malls are out, independent strip malls are making a comeback.

Evelyn - this is the second big shopping area built in Carlsbad in the last 6 - 7 years

Thank you, Noah.

I appreciate the compliment, Gita. When I was there it looked pretty popular as the lot was very full

The only retail "shopping " being done at la costa town square is at Stine Mart. This mall is just one big food court. Noodles and company left there was going to be a breakfast place and that didn't happen. This place needs shops it doesn't have. The Forum has nothing to worry about, LA Costa town square is no threat at all. I'm sure the two newest shops one for eyebrows and one very expensive clothing store for women will be both gone by years end. LA Costa town square was built for 75 million and what a waste of money.
