May Bus Line Searcy AR. Anyone remember it?

Sherry Quattlebaum Person has shared a photo with us that might bring back memories for someone.  She says that the bus ran from Searcy to Rose Bud and Center Hill and Joy.  The only people that she recognized from this group were her mother, Frances Hall (to be) Quattlebaum and Willie Corrine Russell Wooten.  She hopes someone may recognize the rock building that the bus is parked in front of and perhaps know why the group was gathered.  After all, it might have been pretty hard to get a group of bus patrons to stand still and pose.

Now, Sherry had a lovely mother who became a well known person who helped run Quattlebaum Music in the heart of downtown Searcy.  Here she is in her younger years riding the May bus.  Ms Wooten, she thinks, was 6th from the left on the back row in a white hat.

I got out my largest magnifying glass, but couldn't i.d. anyone.
Willie Wootens' daughters live in Searcy so maybe they could clarify.
My (educated) guess is that the rock building is in RoseBud....I'm thinking the main purpose of the bus would be to take those in the outlying towns into Searcy...for business, shopping, etc. then back home again.

I don't recognize anyone but, my observation, it must be a church group as they are all dressed up in their "Sunday best".

I had an uncle and aunt who lived in El Paso and I remember taking May's out there one time.

Anita, try again.  There must be someone on there that you'd know.

Elite Home Sales Team, thanks for commenting on this blog.

Harold Gene, I agree.  It has to be a church group.  They are posed and happy and in their Sunday best.

According to the late Tom Pry, there were several bus lines in Searcy in the 40's and early 50's.  Read this.  I rode a bus from Searcy to Step Rock to visit my mother in the late 40's.

I didn't recognize anyone in the picture either but there are several young ladies I would like to have known!

Tom had a quaint way of talking about Charley May's bus line to Rose Bud. "It was easier getting from Searcy to Rosebud (or vice-versa) than it was to get from the west side of town to the east, using public transportation. This was critical to many families."

Don, you got me started reading the old Tom Pry blog and wish I had time to read all of it.  In fact, it would be good to have it made into a book.  He was a good writer and you all were having so much fun.  Thanks for pointing it out.

Yes Tom was a good writer and he wrote interesting stories about Searcy and environs. He was a big contributor to the White County Historical Society. I think the last time I saw him was at the Searcy Historical Tour in 2006. Tom had his note pad and was gathering information for some article.

Tom passed away a few years ago. He had been in poor health and fought the good fight during his last years. Tom and I were good buddies in high school, both being in the band and playing in the same section: me: snare drum and Tom: tenor drum in the marching band. Concert band: me string bass Tom: kettle drum. We stood next to one another in the concert band and as our instruments didn't play a lot of the music, we "visited" a lot. I know: TMI. You won't find a better blog about growing up in Searcy in the good old days, as SearcyYesteryear.

Thomas Lewis Pry, resident of Searcy, died Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2007. He was 69 years of age.

Mr. Pry was born Oct. 7, 1938 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Marcella Edwards Pry and Robert Pry. Tom was a program manager for a broadcasting company where he worked most of his life. He loved writing and telling stories.

Anita, you successfully point out to me again how ignorant I am about music.  Snare drum?  Tenor drum?  Kettle drum?  string bass?  I thought a drum was a drum and that was all there was to it.  Would I have learned all this in music appreciation if I'd had a course?  What is TMI?

Don, I still say that you should take those writings and put them in a book.

Barbara: I won't chastise you for not knowing much about music or instruments, BUT......join the 21st Century girl: T M I is Too Much Information. The young people say it all the time, while rolling their eyes.....when us old fogies attempt to explain or embellish.
