What To Do With That Balcony Bookcase

What To Do With That Balcony Bookcase

Some Contemporary homes offer spaces that can be difficult for today's buyers to "read".  By that I mean that some spaces were created for purposes that might not be pertinent for current lifestyles.  Here's an example in a home that Nestings Home Staging recently staged.

This balcony overlooks the living room, nestled in the high vaulted ceiling, and accessible via the upstairs loft.  This home was custom-designed by the original owners who were voracious readers.  So they had a large bookcase installed.

The target buyer for this home is a young, tech-savvy family who probably uses e-readers, and doesn't necessarily have a lot of actual books.  Fortunately, the shelves were not permanently fixed, so we removed a few and created an art gallery!

We kept the color palette simple, using an eye-catching green.  Here's a look at the "gallery" from the upper loft:

Professional stagers can offer a lot of value by giving new life to outdated spaces!

That is a clever transformation. Hopefully the rest of the shelves won't become collectors and not art showcases

I was just in a home that had a back hall just like this. Great job!

I don't think I have ever run across anything like this.  I love the pop of color you incoporated to break up the white.

Thank you, Ed! We felt it was a good way to showcase these particular bookcases, given their location.

Janice - how did you deal with them?

Erin - I see many custom-built homes that have elements designed specifically for the original owners. My job is to define them for the potential buyers!

Hey Julia!

Oh the book filled bookcases :) I love the look on sellers faces when I do some tweaking to the items on the shelf. The smallest changes make such a big impact on their appearance.
