Selling A House Is Stressful

Selling A House Is Stressful

There is stress associated with selling a house at any time.

When you couple the sale with other factors such as  an out

of state move, an illness, a death, a divorce, a foreclosure or

any other life altering situation... there is going to be anxiety.

 Stress

When first working with sellers, I do some counseling,

warning them that when they become upset to remember to

...take a  deep breath, take a few steps backwards and say

"this must be the stress Margaret Rome warned us about."

Selling A House Is Stressful!

In almost every transaction, someone has a mini breakdown, or a minor temper tantrum.

We need to be able to recognize these situations. We need to be aware and we need to stay calm.

It might be a simple dispute over a fixture that was excluded, a termite issue or a missed appointment.

It might more serious like the loan being denied at the last minute or movers not showing up.

                                         My nursing background

has come in handy for these emotional and stressful times.

Letting our clients know that stress is a normal part of

moving can make a big  difference.

Hi Margaret - stress and selling are always in the same sentence.     Are there any sales that are not stressful?  Thanks for the nice reminder to discuss stress in the beginning of a transaction!

Selling does tend to heighten the stress factors.  I've also worked with people who were selling as they were getting married, because it seemed to be logical to do it all together as they moved into the new home.

I kept reminding them....as you get through this, remember nothing will ever be as stressful. Smile, cry a bit, and we get through another day.  This doesn't always make for the most direct routes to a logical resolution, but it does make it interesting.

Margaret, stress is part of everyday life and exacerbates itself when dealing with selling a home! Stepping back and taking a few deep breaths is sage advice. Enjoy a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Margaret,

As agents, we always have to step back and remember how stressful it is for our clients.

Good morning Margaret. What an important message. You are so smart but even more importantly: so good. I wish you only the best.

... and sometimes the melt-down has absolutely nothing to do with the sale, it's just a welcome excuse. Then we figure out what the problem really is and help along as best as we can.

Great point, Margaret, to remind clients that selling is stressful. I tell mine right up front that it's a real pain in the you know what and they will be asking themselve throughout why they ever decided to do so!

Margaret... it's like an ongoing conversation on the stress issue!  In the end, no matter how smooth a transaction might be going, there will be stress somewhere along the line.
