I confess that my idea of New Year's Eve is a good dinner and tucked up in bed by 10 - After all, I have to be ready to eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day with my family! But in case you don't share my lack of interest in being with a group of people I don't know - all intent on "having a good time" - then here are some ideas in Bethesda for your selection!
What/Where: Last Dance in Old Havana New Year’s Eve Party at Redwood
When: Early bird dinner package available through 6 p.m.; Havana Party starts at 9 p.m.
Highlights: This evening of dinner and dancing will be themed around 1950s Havana. Enjoy a three-course fixed priced menu with a tropical flare and a champagne toast. Later, the “Havana Party” will feature live music, photography, a heated outdoor bar, casino games and a hand rolled cigar.
Cost: Dinner and dancing package, which includes access to Havana Party, is $78 per person. Early Bird dinner package is $45. The “Havana Party Package,” at $56, doesn’t include dinner but includes access to the party and two complimentary themed cocktails.
Make reservations online at redwoodbethesda.com.
MY THOUGHTS- this actually sounds fun - but I want to go to Old Havana and see the 1950s cars. I don't lke Redwood - think it is too big - but this might make me rethink my attitude!
What/Where: New Year’s Eve at Jaleo
When: Dinner service with full menu and New Year’s specials is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., second seating begins at 8 p.m.
Highlights: Enjoy a special tasting menu beginning at 8 p.m. and a band beginning at 9 p.m. Per Spanish tradition, each guest will receive a glass of cava and 12 grapes at midnight.
Cost: Call 301-913-0003 for pricing information and reservations, and check the website for more information.
MY THOUGHTS - This is where we celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday this week - so I promise I love Jaleo's! Lots of clementinas this time of the year - and the sangria was good! I like Jaleo's - just don't lose sight of the fact that it is only a restaurant - not nirvana on earth!
What/Where: Mezza Madness Celebration at Lebanese Taverna
When: 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve
Highlights: Nosh on more than 20 traditional mezza, from lamb and chicken to hummus, as well as dessert. Enjoy two interactive belly-dancing performances and ring in the New Year with a champagne toast.
Cost: $75 per person plus tax and gratuity. Make reservations online or call 703.841.1511.
What/Where: “A Night on the Town” at DoubleTree Bethesda
When: 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve
MY THOUGHTS- Lebanese Taverna has lovely mezza - when they get the order straight - and the belly dancers are no doubt entertaining- My personal choice for Lebanese Taverna is any off night when the restaurant is not full and you go for a pleasant dinner in a quiet place. Like I said - my choice - Doesn't have to be yours!
Highlights: This event is themed around cities across the nation and features an open bar, food stations located in “city-themed” venues, a DJ and a dance floor, live jazz, dance lessons, photography, a movie theater, and a champagne toast.
Cost: $99 per person. VIP specials for $289 and $339 per couple include deluxe guest rooms. Tickets must be reserved in advance
