There are great benefits in Florida, residents who apply and qualify will receive a homestead exemption that reduces the taxable value of their property by up to $50,000!!! Why not add this to your New Years Resolution list! Save money this New Year!! You may file your application online or in person at one of the two locations in Saint Lucie County. The filing deadline is March 1st of the tax year for which you are applying for. 

All requirements must be met as of January 1st of the qualifying tax year

Information needed for each person filing for an exemption is your Florida driver's license, Social Security Card or Number of applicant & applicant's spouse, If the applicant is not a U.S. citizen, a U.S. Permanent Resident Alien Card, a Copy of entire trust, Date each applicant became a permanent Florida resident, Date of occupancy, Date of birth of all applicants, Any exemptions filed last year, Address of last income tax return! You can also apply online! It's so Easy and Convenient! All Proof of residency should be dated prior to January 1st!

Brian, great information for home owners. I always remind clients after purchasing a home that when they receive their deed in the mail the first thing they should do is take it to the assessors office and claim their homestead exemption.
