We usually do a food drive in January, but this year because the weather was relatively mild, and people were asking about it, we decided to go ahead and get the donations in early.
Our neighborhood and one neighborhood over often contribute in a great way to the local food shelf, but this is one that is really successful because folks know that we try to help out every year.
The good people of St. Michael and Hanover are terrific with their generosity and this year we collected nearly a pickup full of canned goods, produce and quite a lot of cereal. And, we even got donations in the form of gift certificates to the local groceries and the meat market, too.
It warms my heart to know that all these people not only donate, but look forward to this food drive. And, so many donate their time and talent to the local food shelf, too. Bless each and every one of you. When folks are so gracious, we know that our neighborhoods and communities are doing well, and being grateful want to help the less fortunate. It is always an honor to help with the drive and when more people get involved, the word spreads about the food drive, bringing more participants and more volunteers.
I know that we can't end hunger in our community with just one food drive a year, but we make an effort to help out year around with our own volunteering.
We have even gotten the Senior Center involved and some of the other churches, boy scout and girl scout troops, and even some of the Lions from around the area. We do what we can, and we know that there are so many others out there doing the same.
Bless each and every one......Happy New Year to you all!
Best, Ron
