My New Year's resolution? I am going Old School!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

Going old school by Richard WeisserI was at a gathering on New Year’s Eve and I was asked if I had any resolutions the upcoming year.

Truthfully, for the first time in many years I had not given any thought to areas in which I could use some improvement.

But after reflecting on the matter, I have come up with an idea that could serve as a resolution.

I have decided that I am going “Old School” in my business efforts for 2015.

I am going to eschew embracing new technology in favor of old fashioned postcards, phone calls, and face to face lead generation.

Instead of spending the bulk of my time just trying to keep up with the latest and the greatest, I will start doing things that will actually help increase my business.

I’m looking forward to moving in a new “old” direction!

I second this plan.  I went old school in 2014 and it has has produced some great rewards.  I plan to do more of the same in 2015! Old school is in.

At a recent CRS training, the instructor shared that the ROI for face-to-face gatherings yield a 5% rate. Compared to the 1% that postcards yield, I think meet and greets are a good way to go.

You may be on to something here Richard Weisser . Think about all the time we waste learning new technologies only to have them change, while not really enjoying a lot of benefit. Old School may be the answer!  :)

Great idea Richard.  Nothing replaces reality.  Most of us get most of our business from people who we've met, already know us, are referring us.  No technology replaces those relationships.

Good morning, Richard Weisser and a Happy New Year to you.... I hope 2015 brings you good health, also and most importantly..... as far as resolutions are concerned, I stopped thinking about those....my focus is on the long range goals and the future.... I never stopped using "old school" methods but I complemented them with online....I was technology challenged and Katerina Gasset fixed that problem...fixed enough so that I can survive online....but my efforts are with offline marketing....it's worked well for me for 36 years, and I'm not changing at this stage of my career....It's actually allowed me to semi-retire from beating the pavement....all I do is marketing and reap referral fees .... best of luck with your new path, Richard....I wish you well.

Good morning Richard. You are smart and this is the way to go. Technology is terrific but all the gadgets are just tools and the stuff that matters is no different than it ever was.

Learning new technologies and ways to market to consumers on-line is great but time has proven that nothing beats good old fashioned face to face people skills. It's something that the younger generation is losing out on.

Richard...I have been doing this for years.  I never let technology take over my business plan.  Word is out I am old school and people like that.  Especially the elderly who by the way many are setting very well off.

I never left "old school" marketing methods at all.  I just incorporated some new and shiny with them.

It's funny we used to get excited when we got an email .....now we get excited to receive old fashioned mail.  Old school is something. I need to add to my 2015 plan from mailers to more face to face meetings /groups. Good luck to you in 2015

Richard, I read something the other day that said the old methods still work and that agents that embrace them will find new success. It made me think of the new agents that don 't know how effective a face to face contact can be or how to pick up the telephone and talk. If they can't text, then it doesn't get done.

Hi Richard, The interesting thing about the old way is that it isn't old at all, it is timeless. It simply works and has been proven over 100 years of use.
