Why one commission check is not worth ruining your reputation

http://virtualrealestateteam.com. I am in my 26th year of being an Oklahoma City REALTOR® but I remember when I first started and had very little money, it was a temptation to bend or maybe even break the rules in order to get the commission check, but I successfully resisted. Now that one commission check is not a necessity but it also means something more. It means that in selling you Oklahoma City investment real estate, or any real estate, it means that success is not measure in a quest for volume, it is measured in a quest for quality. This not only something I take pride in for myself, it is also something where with a task force I am working to change the curriculum for Oklahoma REALTORS® where our educational system helps agents become more profitable and more successful because even though ethics should always be followed when it comes down to making a house or car payment or putting food on the table for your children, that temptation to bend the rules is powerful. When you work with me or a member of my team we will never let one commission check be more important than doing the right thing, and making sure that your purchase helps you achieve your dreams of home ownership or gaining wealth through investing in real estate. I agree with you but honest men do not bend.  Like yourself.

Thanks Tim, for me bending means breaking. I personally believe that our industry gets a bad rap even though i know some can be desparate for that commission check. The majority I deal with don't but that constant temptation from emails like the companies that do commission advances are an unnecessary evil in my opinion.

Great points. There are a handful of agents I know, a few at some specific brokerages, I'd rather not deal with because they often seem to put commission before their integrity. I would rather give up a commission than have my integrity questioned.

Great post!  You're absolutely right.  Integrity and character are worth more than any amount of money and when a deal causes you to rethink core values, it's better to walk away.
