OK.......I must admit...the last two weeks have found me ‘idly’ getting caught up on my reading...
I mostly read non-fiction and mostly spiritual classics...
Over the years I’ve gotten tired of SEARCHING for something worthwhile to read...NOW I usually only read HIGHLY RECOMMENDED books...!!!
In the spirit of true TRANSPARENCY (not the kind promised by politicians), I’ll share what I have been reading these past two weeks:
PRAYER OF THE WARRIOR...by MICHAEL H. BROWN...If you’re not sure evil exists (and are brave and strong in your faith in God) try this one...!!!
LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS...by PEGGY NOONAN...written in the early nineties before much of what has made the news in the last 20 years...the author proves her prophetic abilities and sheds some great insights on the present state of Our World and Our Country...!!!
THE WORLD’S FIRST LOVE...by FULTON J.SHEEN...This Catholic Classic written in 1952 has become one of my personal favorites...With clarity this soon to become a Saint of The Church explains in great detail and Godly simplicity everything you ever wanted to know about Mary, The Mother Of God, but may have been afraid to ask...I will surely reread this classic often...!!!
THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON...by HENRI J. M. NOUWEN...This classic, written by a dutch priest, came highly recommended by a Retreat Master at a recent weekend spiritual retreat...Based on the highly famous painting by Rembrandt, Father Nouwen takes the reader to a very worthwhile analysis of the various subjects in the famous artwork, including a self analysis of his own spiritual journey...I may also reread this one often...!!!
THE WELL AND THE SHALLOWS...by G. K. CHESTERTON...A collection of essays and short articles covering a panoply of political, spiritual, and economic topics...I must confess, CHESTERTON is ONE OF MY FAVORITE WRITERS and rarely disappoints...Although his body of work is enormous and extremely diverse, and seldom given credit by intelligentsia, he is known in Church circles as THE APOSTLE OF COMMON SENSE...Read anything by him you can get your hands on...!!!
LASTLY, I am currently reading and very much enjoying, A MAP OF LIFE...by FRANK SHEED...Originally published in 1933...Mr. Sheed has also proven to be quite prophetic when attempting to diagnose present problems and meaningful solutions...!!!
Next on my list will be 41...by GEORGE W. BUSH...A Christmas gift from my oldest Daughter and First Blessed Child...You always have to have one ready at hand to read...!!!
