- New North Scottsdale Restaurant - Spiga Cucina Italiana -

Spiga Italian ScottsdaleSpiga Cucina Italiana recently opened in the space that was home to X-Tapa Joe's for many years. Before it opened, it underwent a significant renovation and the new space is open and beautiful with lots of exposed brick detail.

In the front, you will find a large bar area that is separated from the dining room via an artistic screen. In the large main dining room, there is an open kitchen where you can watch all of the behind-the-scenes activity. Because the space is so open, the volume may be a little energetic when the restaurant is full, but there is another, quieter dining area off of the entrance as well as a private dining room and ample, elegant patio seating.

On the night we were there, we decided to sit in the bar area and order some appetizers.

Spiga Scottsdale restaurantWe started a cheese dish, Caprese Three-Way. As the name implies, it was three takes on the caprese salad.  Each of the preparations were great.

We then moved on to a Salmone Antipasti.. With ingredients like cured salmon, watermelon radish, pickled garlic, green apples and a citrus vinaigrette, I was not sure how it would come together, but the end result was spectacular. Crisp bites with the salty salmon and fresh lemon and a hint of garlic were delicious.

The final item we ordered was a Beet "Ravioli." This was another interesting, tasty and creative dish. The beets were stuffed with herbed goat cheese and resembled pasta raviolis. They were then sprinkled with crushed pistachios, citrus and dressed in a sherry vinaigrette. Another excellent dish.

Service was incredibly friendly and we were checked in on many times throughout our meal. Plus, the friendly owner stopped by to introduce himself and see how things were going.

Overall, we really enjoyed our appetizers and we are very much looking forward to returning for a full meal.
