Clutter!

Problem: Most people have too much clutter

A few easy tips on getting Your Home In Order Quickly

Have you ever had someone drop into your home unexpectedly? Most likely, your visitor will take in the condition of your home!

If you are a "neat freak" - no worries, but if your house is a mess you might be a bit embarrassed!

It happens every day, in every home, office, and business all over the world.

Do you know how these people feel?

Anna sits in her living room and she looks at the pile of junk that needs to be organized. She hasn't got around to tidying it away and she silently scolds herself for procrastinating. But - that's nothing, she thinks, because her friend has a whole garage full of stuff that hasn't been used for years and years.

Brian moved to his new home a few years ago but has still not unpacked lots of his everyday useful items. He is now looking for some cooking tools, and he has no idea where to start looking for them.

Lastly, and worst of all - Jenny has never got around to sorting and organizing her precious family photos. Then, during a flood the box in the basement, where she has been keeping all her memories, is destroyed completely. The photos cannot be replaced, and if she had only organized and dealt with the project during the last five years the photos would be in albums in her home and not lost forever.

Solution: DeClutter, especially if you hope to sell your house!

You're SO right--you spend more time looking for something beneath the clutter than you would have spent placing it in its correct place initially!

David - Suggest advising people that they need bigger homes so that they can get all of that clutter out of their garages :)

I have the hardest time getting sellers to help sell their homes.  I guess they just don't get it?

I hate clutter as well but my husband likes to keep everything so it has been a hard time compromising.

Hi David,

There is tons of stuff on TV about preping your house to make it sell.

The biggest problem it to convince the owner that it is no-longer their home. It is a product on the market.

They have to make it appeal to a wide group of potential buyers.

They might love the canary yellow walls and the green shag carpet from the 60s but they have to go and so do all the collections of dolls and pictures of the grandkids.

On the other hand, it is hard to sell an empty house. You might have to get the owner to rent some furniture for a month or two just to make the place look lived in.
