Sweet Medicine was of the Cheyenne People

Sweet Medicine warned his people that strangers would appear among them one day, they would be of light skinned, would speak an unknown tongue. With them there would be a strange animal that would change the Cheyenne way of life forever.

 Horse

This animal will have a shaggy neck and a tail almost touching the ground. It will have round hoofs. This animal will carry you on it's back and help you in many ways. See those far hills that seem only a blue visio in the distance take many days to reach now, but with this animal you can get there in a short time, so fear this animal not.

      Horse

Sweet Medicine also predicted the corrosive impact upon his people, of those who had brought the horse with them, would do to the Cheyenne.

Some day you will meet a people that are light skinned. They will try always to give you things, but do not take them. At last I think you will take these things, that they offer you and this will bring sickness to you.

Horse Camp

Your ways will change. You will leave your religion for something new. You will lose respect for your leaders and start quarreling with one another.

Crazy Horse

You will take the light skinneds ways and forget good things by which you have lived and in the end become worse than crazy.

A Way of Life

Unfortunately Sweet Medicine was right.  It's very sad what we did to the native americans.  Thanks for sharing it Dale, we should not forget.

It's a shame that a lot of their heritage was lost or diluted.  We see if here quite a bit.  Many of the native elders often complain that the young kids are turning away from their heritage and in some cases, forgetting about it altogether, which is tragic.

Dale - The Native American Indians heritage should always be respected and taught; however it is not happening. I'm not sure history is even being taught much anymore.  As the elders pass on there will be less memories as to where history began. We are living in a different world today.

Look how things have changed in this country in the last 100 years. My mother is or will be 91 she has seen alot of history; some good and some not so good.

You are 100% right that Native American Indians heritage shoud always be

respected and taught,  Native American Indians are the fines people in the U.S.

When I was in School many many moons ago, that was one class I was always

geting in to trouble in. I would not just go by what the School book's sated. I always

needed to know more. I would for resources out side of School for what we where

learning about.

I could tell ya some story's about how that went ovre for sure.

I always had the back up for what, I was stating about it in black and white.
