White Lake Cardboard Boat

Races for Cancer Charities

Cardboard boat races

One of my clients that is a girl scout leader had on one of her online profiles this little statement. "Trying to change the world one little bit at a time from southeastern Michigan."  It is so true.  Most of us are not world leaders or Mother Theresa, but we can make the world a little better place.  This is my way of trying to make the world a little better place.

Come support the cancer fight and be part of this fun filled day at the White Lake Inn on July 19, 2014.  Our goal is to make as much money as possible for cancer charities to fight all forms of cancer.  So gather a crew and build a cardboard boat.  We are encouraging you to dress up, be wacky, and have some fun.

We are going to have different races for age groups especially for the kids.  The race course is going to be in front of the White Lake Inn and is going to be a semi circle course about 200 yards long.

Did you know?Child with cancer

  • One in 4 deaths in the US is due to cancer.. That is 585,720 cancer deaths in the US.
  • 159,260: Expected number of lung cancer deaths in 2014
  • 233,000: Number of men expected to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 – the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men, aside from skin cancer
  • 136,830: Number of colorectal cancer cases expected to be diagnosed in 2014. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women.
  • Every 2 Minutes, a Woman in the U.S. Is Diagnosed With Breast Cancer.  1 in 8 women will get breast cancer
  • Every 33 minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer. That's 43 children today, tomorrow, and every day

I lost my wife to breast cancer in 2010 after a 22 year battle.  I have had friends that have lost their lives from brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, and multiple mylomia.  It is devastating to the families to lose their loved one.  But the worst is children with cancer.  I would go with my wife to some cancer treatments and to see the young children with shaved heads was heart breaking.  If you and I can help the cause of speeding up the cure for cancer then that would be great.

So send a check for the fight against cancer whether you are racing or not.  You make a difference.

This event is put on by the White Lake Inn and myself, Russ Ravary your lakes area realtor.

Looks like a fun and memorable boat race in addition to benefiting a great cause, a total grand slam of an event.
