If you have ever traveled down highway # 50 toward Canon City, you have probably never noticed Five Oaks Homes in Penrose. This is the unassuming home building site for custom modular homes. Jacob (Jay) invited me on an impromptu tour today.
The folks at Five Oaks Homes are striving to not only build custom homes but help those who want to live in rural or remote areas. Their philosophy Built Smart means that intelligent construction saves everyone money and time. This was explained to me to mean that it isn't always practical to build where people want to live. Builders are often unwilling or unable to build in remote areas either because of the cost factor or practicality.
Jay walked me through a 4400 square foot home nearly complete and ready to roll. Put together to fix like a puzzle, but not "boxie." One of the things that surprised me about this particular house was even thought it currently sits on a flat lot, it has been designed and will become to be a walk out.
Within the Five Oaks Homes huge steel building were new structures being built to become a hotel. The various hotel rooms and community space will soon travel up into Crestone Colorado to be assembled there. These spaces are designed down to a tee. The radiant floor heat and carpet are all ready to roll with the rest of the building.
Jay also has an eye toward building green. Although not often asked Five Oaks Homes have the ability and knowledge to incorporate green assets into these homes. Concerned about the environment that these homes will be placed, Jay explained that the over all site is damaged less by building this way. Because the structure comes onto the site in large pieces instead of thousands of pieces there is less loss at the site. Usually, subcontractors and all of their equipment are constantly running over the natural environment or losing supplies due to weather. The loss factor is minimal within Five Oaks Building.

Hi Dena...We are lucky to have green-built modulars in the Greater Asheville area, too. So many advantages could be available as you suggest.
BTW......Your post went to the last page because we have a problem with the date on our space here...notice it says "2001"...Until this gets resolved...try posting a comment after you post and that should bring it up to the first page
