The price for a great bottle of wine at a Napa Valley restaurant, ask the French Laundry

French Laundry, Yountville, Napa ValleyWhat someone will pay for a bottle of wine, the only question seems to be, what the heck is the limit one can pay. Given the notoriety of the recent wine theft at Napa Valley's infamous restaurant, the French Laundry, I decided to look at the perceived values of the wine recently stolen true worth.

I priced just one bottle of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti “Richebourg” 1988, on the internet., $1,000 from a private collector. The Price Range of a 750 ml bottle of the 1993 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti “La Tâche”, Average: $2,474 - From: $1,975 - to: $3,118. I am beginning to think the $300,000 figure reported is low given the reality of the asking prices on what was stolen from the French Laundry.

2009 Frencl Laundry wine lostAmong the most valuable wines taken were bottles of DRC Romanée Conti with the vintages spanning 2004-2010 which range in price at retail from $11,000 to $15,000 per bottle. I priced the 2009 DRC Romanée Conti on the internet and found an asking price of $15,000 per bottle. Sure makes the priciest water seem cheap.

The thieves also took several bottles of California cult Cabernet Sauvignon Screaming Eagle, with prices ranging from $2,100 to $7,500.

Here's a complete list of the wines taken. Sorry all you Napa Valley wine fans, the French wines are taking top billing here. We keep trying.....

Try Italia Roscato. Gold star with white logo. The red and white are both flavorful. Definitely will change your perspective on wine if your not a wine drinker.

Being they never set the alarm makes one wonder. I think, even if I had the money to afford a $15,000 bottle of wine, I wouldn't buy one given there are  truly some great ones for around $100 per bottle. cheers cvc

And I thought $64 at a restaurant for a bottle of wine was steep.  Clearly, there's many different levels of expensive.

Curtis,

Yeah I have actually had a couple of these. I have the Dom Pergnion 2004 vintage. I had a 1/3 of a glass of Screaming Eagle I think it was the 99 the guy opened it for me I did not ask and he let Bob and I sample it. I wish I had bought it is was$189.99 I would be willing to sell it for the going prices! I agree with you great wines for $100 and I have some great malbecs for $45!

urtis, this group of wine thiieves knew their wines to say the least. I think the $300 K total is too light as you said in your post. Probably double that number is the more accurate amount. Cheers..

Makes every very good $10 bottle you, Yolanda and I can find more precious. Sorry, but $15,000 for a bottle of wine, a bit too precocious for me. I know, a big word for a way too big price, cheers cvc
