I was floating around the blogosphere this evening and happened to see this post on Sellsius about people using information on Craigslist to scam unsuspecting consumers.  The scammers might also use Craigslist to hijack a potential client that might otherwise come to the listing agent (be sure to read the comments to the post).  I guess Craigslist has it's downside.  Whaddya want for free, huh?

It's too bad, really. What could be a great way to find buyers for a client's home is fast turning into a true "let the buyer beware" environment.

Craigslist has a dark side... as does everything else.  Most of the scams are pretty easy to spot, although some of the rental scams are pretty sophisticated.

Lane -- I know this is true but it's a shame that you always have to be on the lookout for "the dark side".

Eugene -- Amen!

Mara - I originally just put this in the Marketing Using Craigslist group but took your suggestion and added it to a few of my other groups.

It appears there is always someone out there who will take advantage of a service to scam the public. Thanks for the reminder.

Good Post!

Wow I better double check the rental ads to make sure my listings are not being used.

Yep, there are always people out there that would rather scam people, rather than try and make a good honest living.  Sad but true.

I use CL as a way to generate leads for loans.  I often get suspicious emails and know enough about them now to spot them instantly.  I wonder if this applies to what I am doing too?

Why, why, why??? would anyone send money with a promise to send keys to their address????  I do not understand what people are thinking when they respond to that kind of ad.
