ADWEEK just published a graphic that illustrates who is really using social media.

This is something that I have suspected. There is a lot of heavy use on Twitter and Facebook for all ages. They are fairly equal. The age groups are evenly distributed. There is a lot of great tools now on the back end for Twitter that shows what your audience is paying attention to.
Something to think about is what the millenials are looking at. They prefer quicker social media platforms that require practically no reading on Pintrest, and Instagram. They also seem to like Tumblr.
