Parks in Tucson are heavily utilized - for all kinds of events, any type of outdoor fitness you can think of - or simply just a way to spend the day with your family and friends - and even your pets.
Here are 5 new park amenities that are happening around Tucson:
1. Seven new fully lighted soccer fields are coming - two in Naranja Park in Oro Valley, three at Rillito Reginal Park in the Foothills and two at Quail Creek Park in Sahuarita.
2. The biggest splash park - nearly 4,500-square-foot - is scheduled to open this summer at Gladden Farms Park in Marana. This will be a farm-themed park with tractors, a windmill and crops that spout, spray and drip water.
3. Five new miles of riverfront paths at the Loop. The Loop, Pima County’s riverfront walking and bicycling path, is the biggest park|bike|walk path improvement in Tucson and continues to grow - the new miles will include the Santa Cruz River, an extension on the Pantano River path, along Canada del Oro up to I-10 and a segment between La Cañada and La Cholla.
4. Playground improvements. Any day of the week - at any playground in a park - you can find someone or groups of people! The playgrounds at Mission Manor Park, Esquer Park and Purple Heart Park will be improved and upgraded and ready by late spring.
5. Finally, the dogs! And finally, the dog park at McDonald Park on the east side will get lights, so dogs and their owners can play and chase balls until the park closes! At James D. Kriegh Park in Oro Valley, dogs will get a new gravel surface they can romp around on!
