Who done it?

Saturday night while I was out at our golf club, attending a surprise birthday party for a friend, many of the guests kept telling me congratulations too!  Since it was not my birthday, I was wondering why? Several of those, I have not seen most of the winter told me they saw that sold sign go up on my listing over on Washington St. I was taken back by this and very surprised because I had not yet place a sold sign there. It is not yet sold.  It does have an accepted offer, but it's not closed.

This particular property has been a real challenge, as it is a double wide-mobile home located within the city limits. This is unusual, as there are only a few in town.  Like most cities, you have to have most manufactured homes located within a mobile home park. This particular home has been sitting empty for almost 2 years. Then, hooray, finally a newbie agent from another office in town, has brought in a buyer. The property has been very hard to finance because of the condition. It has had tons of showing and everyone in our office is really tired of showing the home then only to hear time and again, that no one can get financed on it.  So it is great to get this office.  I would never, of course, place a sold sign up when we only have an accepted offer.  I need to see the loan documents arrive then get to the closing table, then place the sold sign when it is really sold.

So now the mystery is WHO DONE IT... wondering would the newbie agent be that extra dumb to place this cheesy paper sold sign, mounted with duct tape on to my yard sign? Could it be the buyer? He just could not contain himself at the joys of future home ownership? I don't wish to get all uptight about it, but really, don't you think, duct taping a sold sign on someone else's yard sign is just wrong? I drove over on Sunday morning and tore it off; I do plan to ask this agent, in a nice way. If she did do this; she most likely won't fess up.

Well, that's a new one.  Never heard of that.  Do you think the seller could have done it?  I would think that a buyer or seller would be more likely than an agent.   I can't imagine an agent being dumb enough to try something like that.  Let us know what you find out though... interesting.

It is definitely not the seller, they are out of the area.

Maybe it was just a neighborhood prankster? I would think the new agent would have at least used a sign from there office stating it was SOLD...  The Buyers are my other guess. Claming there place!!!

Hello Sharon, I don't think the neighbor did this, as they want to buy the place and had a standing low ball offer on it since it was listed. I am hoping it is the buyer who made the sold sign. It was made on a computer and some work to print it out so neatly.  I have just  let it pass for now, but may mention it at the closing table, if we get there. With both of them present I think I may be able to see how this who done it ends.

This is the first I ever heard of this particular action.  Had you pended the property yet?

Hi Matthew, No it was not placed on pending yet, and as a matter of fact I think the sale has now fallen apart. They is why I think it was the newbie not the buyer. I don't know who done it for sure.

On the up side of things you know that your SOI is keeping an eye on how your business is doing and thinking about you.

Mary:  It is odd about the duct taped SOLD onto your sign.  However, focus on the positive.  I often forget how visible our signs are.  I never think that people that know me, driving by my listings, ever notice when they get the UNDER CONTRACT, or later the SOLD.  But there is always someone who does....and it never ceases to make me feel good.  Those people that congratulated you are among your fans that want you to succeed.  You should be calling them for referrals!

Bob and Chris, Thanks, that was very positive, and yes it is nice to know my SOI is out there! I also never did mention it to the agent, I just let it go. If someone went to take it down and found it was gone, then they know it was a mistake to place this on my sign.

For those of us who are not "texting literate", what is SOI?

Definitely sounds like a prank from some kids. Over the years I have heard quite a few stories of pranks. The most common is for them to take "For Sale" signs; and then move them to another house that is NOT for sale either in the development or area.

Hello John: Yes I have had them moved to a non-listed home as a prank, also once had a moustache painted on my face, when I first put my photo on the sign.

Mary,

A mystery that may never be confessed too. I once had my yard sign taken and hidden on the side of the garage, my guess by a potential Buyer......the strangest thing.

Hi Dan, yes it was weird, we finally have a contact on this home to the neighbor, they will eventually remove the mobile home and wanted the lot and garage.
