Balboa Park Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden
Founded in 1975
The Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Park is 3 acres of some of the most beautiful land as part of Balboa Park. The Access from the main park is via a footbridge that crosses over Rt 163. This photo was taken from that footbridge.
Much of main gardens is not in view but the photo does show the fountain as a focal point. Roses while beautiful to see from a distance are so much more beautiful up close and the variety of color and fragrance is nothing short of exhilarating. There are 2400 rose bushes and 180 varieties to view.
I took many photos here of the individual roses on display. Because of our warm year around climate, we get year around roses. But like most flowers, Spring is the time with the most explosive growth of flowers.
Below are two examples of just how magnificent these roses are. Beyond the tree line is a very large section and it is hard to miss because you are greeted with the most beautiful varieties of yellow roses and the Memorial Plaque designating the name, Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden.
I was particularly taken with this rose. It seemed to have a light show going on inside of it. I studied this one for quite some time. It must have been some sunlight rays from behind that created this illumination glow in the flower. But it made taking it's photo a delight.
This next rose was an unusual shade of red. It seemed to be the color of a bright red ripe tomato. Really beautiful in it's subtlety.
When you visit the Rose Garden take some time to look at the individual blooms. While the varieties are named, the shapes and petal arrangements are really interesting.
