TwitterLocal LogoI awoke this morning to a Twitter timeline with a gem inside.

Laura Fitton ( @pistachio ) had just sent out a tweet about TwitterLocal.net. She said, "twitterlocal.com is going straight to the top of my answer to the question "how do I get started on Twitter and find people to follow?" Her tweet had an incorrect link, so I replied to let her know it was .net instead of .com. Her follow up tweet echoes my feelings exactly.

"Oooops www.Twitterlocal.net! The .com is a squattery mess. .net can rock your Twitter world. Sub in RSS to a city you're traveling to, etc."

TwitterLocal Is A Twitter Search Engine

TwitterLocal.net allows you to search Twitter for people in your city, or a city you may be traveling to, and subscribe to a feed of the tweets based on that search criteria. Theoretically, this should alert you to any new users who come into the area, as the feed is gong to send you their tweets to your feed reader, if you choose.

Here's how it works. Choose the area you want to search for and a radius around the location. Maximum distance is 20 miles.

Twitter Local Search Radius

Then, view the latest tweets before deciding to subscribe.

TwitterLocal Feed Viewer

Once I've found the right radius, I can now go view their Twitter timelines. If I subscribe to their feed, I'll always know what their talking about, without following them, but the point of Twitter is conversation. So, by clicking on Christyv32, I'm able to dig deeper to see if I really want to engage in a conversation. If I do, I can simply click on the follow button and respond.

Follow on Twitter

It's All About Relationships.

It always has been. It always will be. TwitterLocal.net makes it easier than ever to find and communicate with people you can actually meet with face-to-face.

Jeff this is great, I had been wondering how I could find local people!

04/07/2008 11:16 AM by Jeannette Neerpat, e-Pro Coral Springs/Parkland Real Estate (London Realty Corp)

Jeannette... I've used Tweetscan in the past, but it's laborious to put in all of the different communities that people might list as their home address. The radius feature, combined with an RSS feed to keep you up to date is truly a benefit.

Jeff, thanks for posting about this -- I'm going to find some local D.C. twits.

Brian... one of my favorites is @jillfoster  she is a DC Media powerhouse.

Just the thing I've been looking for. Thanks Jeff!

Jeff - Great info - that would be great to follow and connect with more locals.

Jeff, I heard @pasticho's post this morning and went and checked out Ann Arbor People it was great. What a neat way to meet people in our local communities and start to build relationships.

Kim... thanks for joining in on the live webcam conversation. I appreciate it.

Missy... it's a good one. Laura nailed it on that one.

04/07/2008 01:44 PM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Jeff, I have signed up for Twitter, but I have not spent much time there.  I need to get moving and fast!  So much to learn and keep up with.  Thank you for always having such relevant and helpful content!

04/07/2008 02:33 PM by Audrey June-Forshey, GRI, Gaithersburg, MD (RE/MAX Realty Group)

Forgive me, but, if I can barely keep up with my own family, how am going to keep up with another group of people on Twitter. I just can't see the value, yet. I'm still keeping an open mind. I just don't get it.

04/07/2008 03:15 PM by Karen Luke - Henry County Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty )

the Air app is great.  It refreshes and you can pick up new connections and have conversations in real time.  Word to the wise:  move beyond having conversations within the RE community.  Twitter is time drain.  Plug in to your local community, add value to the conversations, and don't be spammy.

04/07/2008 03:30 PM by Brad Coy

Jeff,

I'm not even sure what Twitter does for me in general and I'm not sure that anyone really cares what I'm doing all day......but I still love to see what you are doing even if it's thousands of miles from FL.:)

Jeff,

so, twitterstickamnetbookwannacomnetworkinmanoutsideblog.info?

04/07/2008 05:31 PM by Obeoman Steven Stearns (www.obeo.com)

Jeff,  This is surely much easier than the way that I do it now.  In the 'Find Folks!' box I just put the city name and it brings up all those people.  But this way I can do it in one easy shot as opposed to each individual city.  Thanks!

04/07/2008 05:53 PM by Marc Grossman, GRI - Central Florida Real Estate Specialist (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

Jeff...this is very cool. Now I know what to do with all the extra time I have! (that's sarcasm...until I get a new hire, I'm kinda buried)

Thanks for keeping your ear to the ground for us all!

04/07/2008 07:34 PM by Hemet Home Loan Guy, Joey Aszterbaum (Patrion Mortgage)

Not sure I get it...the value of it. It's like...how deep does this blogging thing go. Maybe I'll develop a ...read me a bedtime story ...blogging buddy to correspond with on my Blackberry..if I had one....as I drift off to sleep. ..and dream about blogging < thinking > i must keep in touch ..i must keep in touch. I wake up and my computer is gone. What a nightmare.

04/07/2008 07:54 PM by Barry Smith (Keller Williams Realty Gulf Coast)

Barry... Twitter was an acquired taste for me. I have no idea what the ultimate value will be for anyone, but for a real estate agent, I see it as an easy way to connect with locals you may not be able to connect with any other way. Maybe. Time will tell. The present value is networking, socializing, getting to know people. Not everything has to have an immediate ROI. I don't spend any time at all thinking about how to time justify going to a party, for example. As with anything else online, you can spend too much time on it if you choose. This included.

04/07/2008 08:05 PM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Now this...at the local level is something I could actually see value in. Twitter.com though seems to be just more for fun-which isn't necessarily a bad thing if one has time for it ;-)

04/07/2008 08:09 PM by Maple Valley WA Broker/Owner Colleen Fischesser 425-432-5400 (RE/MAX Select Real Estate)

I like twitter but am still getting the hang of it. Today I finally figured out how to get the tinyurl :) I am watching how some of the pro's use it ..I follow problogger.. I think we are all on to something I do like interracting with my peers..but locally now that is something! I checked it out..not too many in my area online but I am definitely going to use this tool. Thanks Jeff and yes...I am following you!

Hi Jeff - love this, and I'd been wondering how to do something like this for a bit now.  Twitter took a little bit of time for me, too.  But it's fun and I'm keeping my eyes open for ways to incorporate this into my business.  This may just be one of the ways to do just that!

Thanks!
Ann

Jeff - I did it the long way -I looked for mention of Princeton NJ. Your way seems much better. When I start following local people I can sense that some may be unsure of why. Twitter is a relatively new thing for many, so I just try to get to know people. They know I am in real estate, I don't push my work stuff:)

04/07/2008 09:34 PM by Faina Sechzer - Princeton, Montgomery, Hopewell, NJ Real Estate Expert (Henderson-Sotheby's International Realty)

Jeff -You've done it again..... Found something everyone can use that uses twitter. Excellent app. To be honest just got in but will definitely check this our tomorrow. This is what is so great about A/R, people like you. Thanks for all this cool stuff that you're turning us onto and see you soon on Twitter and Flickr. Bob H.

Jeff, THANK YOU!  It is nice to connect with people across the nation and the world...but, if you're ignoring what's happening in your own backyard...well, put it this way, one shouldn't.

Twitter is growing every day.  Love this latest addition.  My favorite Twitter find yesterday was the March 14th men's VD celebration.

04/08/2008 02:58 AM by Susie Blackmon NC Realtor, Maggie Valley, Waynesville (COLDWELL BANKER)

I haven't worked up the courage to have local people follow me. I'm still being selfish and using twitter to blow off steam.  Don't make me clean up my act.

04/08/2008 06:01 AM by Chris Elizabeth Griffith ~ Bonita Springs Fl Real Estate (Keller Williams Elite Realty, Bonita Springs, FL)

Oh boy, I think this is what they call blowing your mind.  I'm not sure.  Exactly what is tweets and twitter? If I am understanding it, this twitterlocal.net is picking up internet "chat" conversations between local people in the radius you choose and you can crash into their conversation if you like the topic.  Am I getting it? So then, what is tweets?

These new words scare me...my absosrbsion rate is maxing out!

04/08/2008 07:40 AM by Elkhart-Evelyn Johnston (Prudential One Realty)

Even with Rocky's help I'm still not twittering very well but this should be very interesting as I would love to focus on some local conversations as well real estate.  Thanks so much as always!

Ross Quintana 509-362-1966 Hey Jeff, thanks for the link I'm gonna check it out, i have found the twitter search to be less than impressive.

{Hubba SVW}...

To be honest I had to seriously cut down on how much time I spend on the p.c. I did this for several reasons:

1. Blog Boy spends most of his time doing what Blog Boy does best. Someone has to keep everything else in our lives running smoothly. That would be me :)

2. I finally got rid of my Blogger's Butt and got myself back into shape. Now if I go back to my old ways that would be going backwards. I don't do backwards.

Once I figure out how to stay on line and in shape I'll turn myself into a Twittering Butterfly :)

P.S. Maybe I need to hire a 'Pool Boy' to help me :)

TLW...ROAR!

I like your mysterious purple universe!  This Twitter thing is very intriguing, but I'll bet it's time consuming too.  I like the idea of using it when traveling though, what a great way to get a handle on local talk.
