"BOOM!" We hear it often here in the High Country.

Living near a ski resort offers some unique experiences. Most of the ski areas use avalanche bombs to control slides. By creating controlled avalanches, they are able to prevent unexpected disasters. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) also controls avalanches along the major highways, particularly I-70 and Hwy. 6 at Loveland Pass. Depending on how close you live to these areas, you may sometimes hear a boom loud enough to rattle your windows. This is most common in the Spring, when snow conditions are prime for dangerous avalanches.

Rolando- I would love for you to expand on this. This is really interesting about the blasting and the avalanches themselves. Would make for great reading.
