DEAR NAR, Please Help!

By
Real Estate Agent with Associate Broker, Momentum Realty

An open letter to the National Association of Realtors

Dear NAR,

I am writing you today as a longtime member to ask you to take some direct action to help all of the Realtors who are out in the field working hard everyday.

Today I received a note from a prospective client. This client was referred to me by my daughter (referral doesn't get more trusted than that!). We have been working together, informally, to help them to determine the community in which begin their home search. We had a tentative meeting set to review the process and to complete Buyer Agency paperwork.
Letter
They wrote a contract for new home construction over the weekend.

Yes, I know I should have educated them that I could help them with this and I would have if we had gotten to that first meeting.

This is where we need your help. The public does not understand that we can help them with a variety of home purchase types. They don't necessarily understand the 'value proposition' that we can bring to the table.

We are dealing with a public that is accustomed to having information at their fingertips. When they need to know something,  a quick search brings up videos, blogs, articles, referrals and reviews.  They are used to doing it all on their own. They don't understand the value that Realtors provide to buyers and Sellers.

NAR, I am asking you to put together a Public Relations Campaign that educates the public both on the value we provide and the range of services that we offer and how the consumer benefits. Ideally, this program would be targeted toward the so-called Millennials; this is the group of consumers who seem least likely to believe that they need our services.

The business is changing, and I am changing with it. This time, however, I am asking my National Association to help me as I work to position myself as an expert in front of an audience of consumers that believe they no longer need expertise or help. This is the generation that grew up with Social Media, never took cabs only Ubers, and relies on You Tube as a way to learn life skills.

As the mother of 3 young-adult children, I feel like I understand how this group thinks...and I believe we need to do some outreach to them at the very highest levels--using their tools, not ours.

Please help, NAR! You are our advocate and we certainly need someone out there advocating for us!

Sincerely,

A career Realtor who wants to keep working!

Good morning Holly,

Try having a downloadable information pack you could send right away.

NYSAR here does that type of advertising.

Make yourself a great day.
