How to get free tech support through nefarious means ...

So, you need tech support and are short of cash? Perhaps these techniques could work for you.

  1. Show up at a local usergroup (preferably for the issue you need help with) and casually mention that you have two invitations for a party at William Shatners house and no one to go with. Then explain the invitation are in Outlook on your computer, but you can't access them etc ...
  2. Visit your local community college and be overheard saying "Yeah, I have a Cray-9 in the garage. Imagine, getting stumped by this minor pc issue."
  3. Leave a trail of M&M's from your house to the local computer store.
  4. Visit your local Circuit Villiage and let it slip that you are in human relations for large I.T. firm with obscenely high salaries and all hirees need to do is fix a few simple issues on a computer at your house ...
  5. Mention to local high school computer wizard that you have the unreleased WoW mod but you can't get your machine working ...
  6. Call manufacturer with pre-sales questions. Explain that their trial software wasn't working properly ...
  7. Baked goods as sacrificial offerings ...
