My Cell Phone Contract Has Come to An End - Now What?

And, I need a new phone and Skip needs a new phone so now what do we do?  My Samsung Galaxy III has a cracked screen plus the phone itself is now limping along and Skip can hear but no one can hear him on his Galaxy III.  We currently have AT & T as our service provider.  A few months ago they reduced their monthly rate to $160 for 4 devices (3 phones and a tablet) for unlimited talk and text and 10 GB shared data (which we've never used all of).

Now they've introduced a new Next plan, the cost varies depending on the device but suffice to say it's an additional, at least, $21 per month per device or if you purchase the phone there's also an additional $25 per month charge.

Over all, we're not ecstatic with our service from AT&T but switching is such a pain.  I don't object paying more but I want to make sure I'm paying for the right service and the right product.

So, I'm looking at other companies.

Verizon - for the same service I currently have it's $240/mth or their Edge Plan is $140 plus a monthly fee per device.

Sprint -has a cut your rate in half plan which is cheaper than what we currently pay but there's also a monthly rent/lease amount per device.  But, they have a reputation for having poor coverage.

T-Mobile - much cheaper plan but really poor coverage.

Then there's Cricket and Boost and a few others.

Who do you use for your cell phone service?  What kind of phone do you have?  What are the pro's?  What are the con's?  All comments most welcome!!

I just did the swich in december.. went with the vzon edge that should knock off about 10% from what I was paying.. got iphone 6s for the family and droid maxx for me which I really like for many reasons.. two super cool reasons are you can shake the phone and it pulls up the camera app... the other is when moved the phone shows the time on the screen along with any notifications that are happening so you can open the notifications by swiping rather than having to turn on the phone.. and again I'm sure there is more I will learn as i grow with it... just m2c

Mark Loewenberg thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.  Who was your cell phone provider before Verizon?

stayed with vzon but looked at all of them.. and was ready to jump if need be.  the sprint 1/2 deal had a lot of small print.. att never really was in the running and tmobile is not as national as I really need to have coverage here in south florida

I am with the big V June, AT&T before that. I switched when it was time for an upgrade b/c their customer service was horrible.. the plan I was looking into was (surprisingly) cheaper at V. I monitored my data usage and have reduced it twice already, saving $20/month.

However, sooner than later, I'll have to add a line or 2 and may have to look at other options again.

I answered on the Q&A that I am happy with AT&T. THey now are offering rollover data so you may be able to find a less expensive plan.

Hi June. I have Verizon and am very pleased with them. I pay about $140 per month for two Blackberry Z10s, one Mifi, and 10 GB of data per month. I have been with Verizon since about 1999 which is about 16 years.

I use my IPad3 and IPods with my Mifi when I am on the road. I also have Verizon FIOS at my house. I am just happy with them.

set this blog to watch; come back in a week and see what the sages have told June.

I've been with Sprint since the 1990's, but am begining to wonder. I've been w/ Blackberry since they first came out.  (I kept up hopes for these Canadian guys, but I may have to wander away soon).

I've been through Cingular, AT&T, etc. Got with TMobile years ago and have stuck with them--best rates and best customer service. But I do have good coverage with them, including internationally. If you don't have good coverage in your area, it would be a problem.

Claude Labbe -- with huge regret I gave up my Blackberry about a year and a half ago and moved to Samsung. But they just weren't keeping up and their equipment was constantly failing me.

Claude Labbe I gave up my blackberry the last renewal period.  I lived in Kitchener-Waterloo and went to University there and had very high hopes for the home town team (RIM) pulling it out but got a Galaxy III 2 years ago.  I'm glad I made the switch. Now I'm ready for a new phone (so ready).

We have used Verizon for many years. It usually has the best coverage but is expensive.
