The master suite is the sanctuary of the home. Regardless of whether you are single or married, the master suite is the one place in the home that is entirely personal—the one area where you can wholly relax and unwind after a long day. Decorating your master suite can be challenging, as finding the balance between cozy and inviting with personal taste can be difficult.

However, these five tips can help you transform your special suite into a retreat:

1. Bed

One of the most important aspects to an inviting retreat is the bed. Many people view their bed to be their one source of luxury; the one area they will splurge in order to have the most comfortable night’s rest.

When it comes to the bed, first and foremost, choose a mattress that suits your sleep preference. While mattresses can cost a pretty penny, spending a little more on a mattress that supports your back will ensure you get a good night’s rest day in and day out.

Next, consider the different types of bedding available to you. Are you more of a minimalist who wants a comforter and a couple pillows, or are you the type who needs the bed fully outfitted with pillows, blankets, and maybe even a canopy? Finding what makes you feel relaxed and peaceful will ultimately lead to a homey master suite.

2. Walls

The color of the walls should reflect the mood you are looking to achieve. In a broad sense, neutral colors tend to be more relaxing. On the other hand, if you are looking for a space to inspire creativity, bolder, brighter colors may be a better option.

Additionally, when it comes to furnishing the space with decor, place items on the wall that spark happy memories, such as pictures of family and friends, paintings of nature, or creating canvas art.

3. View

One of the best ways to wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed is to wake up to a beautiful view. If possible, position your bed to face the windows in the room. However, if you have a lackluster view from your windows or no windows at all, create your own view with your favorite wall decor.

4. Chandelier or Fan

The lighting inside of your room, regardless of whether you want it to or not, makes a statement. While a gorgeous chandelier can make a dramatic, elegant statement, if you need a fan to aid in your ability to sleep, be practical and invest in a ceiling fan. Luckily, there are plenty of ceiling fans that look stylish, helping you combine practicality with design.

5. Flooring

While carpet is a great choice in terms of comfort, especially if you live in a colder area, regular flooring like hardwood and tile can be a viable option as well. Additionally, you can decorate with a rug to warm up the space.

Using these five tips can provide you with a relaxing space where you can rejuvenate after a hard week.
