How in the world does this keep happening? We have lofts and roomy apartments in Detroit. It is attactive for artists and creative people. The only problem is that some of these old buildings are really unstable. The plumbing is usually affected in the winter months. The pipes can freeze and break and cause flooding. This happened a couple of years ago in Corktown, Detroit and it's happened again in Greektown.

Meet Kattrina Hollywood, a dynamic artistic personality from Detroit, she is one of the latest victims in this unfortunate club of flooded lofts.

The unfortunate thing about this story is that Kattrina lost everything she had in this flood. The pictures of her living space shows ankle deep water and cracks in her ceiling. She didn't have any flood insurance which makes this story even worse. Now she is depending on generous people to help out in this critical time.

The bigger question remains on whether or not some of these older buildings should be converted into living environments. There is a lot of concern about the safety of these lofts and apartments. Another area of concern will be black mold. There is another case right now in the news about an entire apartment building that has excessive leaking and black mold growth in the walls and hallways.
