Deflated Balls, Big Egos and Real Estate
This week, everywhere I turn, the talk seems to be about balls. The handling of them. The pressure, oh yeah, the pressure. The size. The weight. The feel. The grabbing and the handling of them. Even the altering of balls(really, who would do that? I mean on purpose?)
Why are people so obsessed with balls?
Then I realized this wasn’t being discussed by Dr. Ruth Westheimer or Dr. Mehmet Oz but all over the news, in print, on talk radio and television plus as I understand in more than a few women’s book club meetings.
People are obsessed with balls.
Deflated ones to be more exact.
DeflateGate it’s been called. Have you noticed every “scandal” becomes a gate-hyphenate?
I digress.
Back to balls.
It’s really about more than just balls. You know, it always is. Right?
It’s about what you know. What you deny. When did you know it? Who told you? How did you learn it? I guess the "why" is kinda a moot point. And when it comes down to it, I imagine people talk about balls - ‘cause they can.
I imagine this controversy will continue until another breaking story hits.
But back to balls. You know this breaking balls story has a real estate angle to it too.
Okay, stay with me just for a second...okay?
The long-term coach stays he knows nothing about his team’s balls.
The quarterback -- the team leader was asked and said he wasn’t aware of any mis-handling of the balls he was playing with.
Believability -- I am not a judge(neither in real life or on television)and I don’t have any balls in this game so I will leave the above issue to you and the powers who decide such things.
Now the real estate angle:
If we are to be respected as a real estate professional -- regardless of tenure in the job - there are certain expectations of what we should know in order to protect our clients and to succeed in our job. And once we become aware of a situation, the need to disclose is important. So it's wise, in my opinion to stay on top of what is happening. Well, at least that is true in California -- where I practice real estate.
Let’s say, as an example, there are relocating buyers and they need to buy a home in a new city in just one long weekend. Their agent shows them multiple homes over the course of the three days. They eliminate most for whatever reason and narrow down their selection to one property. It seems to have everything they want but backs up to a proposed freeway which now is verdant parkland. The listing agent is from out-of-the-area and unfamiliar with the market. The owner passed away and the home is being sold by a corporate trustee also with no knowledge of the property or neighborhood. The buyers’ agent is aware. We know he/she must tell his/her buyers this fact. In California, the answer is YES - Disclose.
Disclosure laws vary by state. We know that.
We also know agents know how to handle keeping multiple balls in the air -- and for most of us -- without that giant football contract.
Maybe because Los Angeles does not currently have a professional football team, when I started to hear all this chatter about balls this week -- my mind eventually turned to real estate instead of spending too much time on this controversy du jour. Because knowing your game is important. Wherever and whenever you suit up to play.
Nothing wrong with talking about balls but if you are thinking of real estate in the Pasadena area or anywhere else in the San Gabriel Valley or the adjacent communities in Northeast Los Angeles(NELA) contact me at 818.516.4393 cell. Believe me, I am quite able to handle nearly anything you throw at me.
