National Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day

January 24, 2015

Who Knew?

I was checking my email this morning and discovered an email telling me that today is Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day.  I'm an avid quilter and never knew there was such a day!!

In Maryland we are blessed with lots of quilt stores and in November we have the Quilter's Quest when we visit 10 of our local quilt shops.  Now there's a day in January to help support your local shop.

I live in Lutherville so the closest shop to me is:

Bear's Paw - located at 8812 Orchard Tree Lane in Towson - this is a great shop with a huge selection of batiks and other wonderful fabrics and lots of knowledgeable staff.  They also sell Bernina machines and have classes.  My quilt group meets there for sew-ins and it's close to lots of restaurants, has lots of parking and is a great place to get what ever you need.

Patches is located in historic Mount Airy.  This is a lovely shop and when I'm in the area I stop in and shop.  They have a nice selection of fabrics, notions and knowledgeable staff.

Cottonseed Glory is located very near the Naval Academy.  This is a great shop to get reproduction fabrics.  Cottonseed Glory also sells Bernina machines.  This is a small shop with a huge selection of fabrics and very knowledgeable staff.

New to our area is Spring Water Designs located at 9691 Gerwig Lane in Columbia.  I haven't been to this shop yet but I hear it's nice.  They offer classes, long arm rental time and a small selection of fabrics and notions.

Capital Quilts is in Gaithersburg.  This shop has lots of parking and a great selection of modern quilt fabrics including Kaffe Fasset and some lovely imported Australian prints.

In Maryland we are blessed with a lot of great shops, many of which I'm sure I will miss in this blog post.  There's a great shop in Frederick called Needles & Pins, Traditions of the White Swan in Hagerstown, Hoppin Bobbin in Aberdeen, Material Girls in La Plata is worth the trip, Lilies of the Field in Easton is a nice little shop and if you are in the area worth the stop, and so many more.

Don't just check out your local stores on Quilt Day!!

Hi June, I'm sure there's a calendar out there of all the holidays nobody ever heard of before.  Glad the quilters got one for themselves.

Who knew is right! Yesterday was also National Compliment Day, which I posted about. Also National Beer Can Day celebrating the first beer can I think back in the 1930's. Also Peanut Butter Day and Eskimo Pie Patent Day. A very busy day, all in all.
