Blue Sofa Set Key In Sale - Home Staging Omaha

By
Home Stager with Prudential Ambassador / Ross Designs, LLC

Typically the golden rule of Home Staging is to go neutral.  Neutral paint, flooring, furniture, etc.  This works most of the time but is not always the best strategy.  Awhile back I received a call from a frustrated builder with a beautiful new construction home for sale on a newer lake development.  The home was well done, nice and neutral finishes throughout. Neutral, neutral, neutral!  One of the biggest attractions for this home was lake living but it was difficult for buyers to look past the sea of tan and builder beige to even notice the lake.

We decided to stage the entire main level and I made a bold move when selecting rental furniture.  I went BlUE!!  Blue is one of my least favorite colors when it comes to interiors, furniture and accessories (gag, gag, gag). However, I felt the blue sofa set would highlight the view of the lake from the living room and entry. I was a little nervous before install but lo and behold my daring choice was a huge success.

This home had been vacant and on the market for a full year.  After I staged the main level, the home sold in three weeks.  Three weeks!!  Can you imagine how happy that builder was to finally have a buyer for this listing? And as usual, Home Staging fees were less than a price reduction would have been.

I am not a blue lover either, but that looks great with all the beige. The sofa floating and facing the window would have been interesting. What a view! Congats....

Blue is the "new" color...according to Pantone.  I used blue upholstery for one of my first projects and it's working great too!  Julie

Tori Lynn - you did a great job.  I'm with you on the "use" of blue.  I try to avoid it as best I can.  However, I just staged a model home where the master bedroom had blue walls.  So, I had no choice but to compliment the blue.

Again, great job on this!

Very pretty! A perfect example of when blue works!!!  If I decided to use blue for a staging, I would have lots of choices at the warehouse, because blue stuff is ALWAYS available!

Tori Lynn ~ Nice job!  With everything neutral I could see how you would want to bring in some color in the furnishings.  Blue (although you hate it) was a natural choice given the lake view.  Good idea on your part that really worked out well.

Tori Lynn, we share the same middle name!  AND I was born in David City.  I agree with you, I NEVER decorate using blue, but lately blue seems kinda cool.  I was actually looking at some blue furniture yesterday.  I think in part because I'm really tired of the neutral look and would love to start seeing color.  You were right on with your choice.  It looks great!

Everyone: glad to hear that so many other people have a slight aversion to blue when it comes to residential interiors.  I think there is a place for every color and it sounds like blue DOES have a use in staging.  I guess I will have to learn to like it a little more. Baby steps ......

Proof positive that every job has to be custom-designed based on its own location and challenges. And proof positive, too, that while we probably won't be using a lot of tangerine orange paint in our staging careers, sometimes adding an actual COLOR makes all the difference!

Nice job!

Hi Tori,  Love the blue sofas!  I just bought a blue sofa yesterday in anticipation of doing a "beachy" type home with blues, yellows, creams and punches of orange and green.  I can't wait to use it!  Glad you had success with this color scheme!

We have beach & bay properties close by & blue does create an emotional tie-in. Love Diana's idea of orange with it-sunset colors!
