Ball Positioning

I went on a golf outing with 7 buddies this weekend up in Mesquite NV.  It was a great trip.  However I was having a significant problem with my game.  I play to a 12 handicap and in most instances I am extremely competitive at that number.

Where I was struggling was from 100 yds in which is usually not an issue.  I just couldn't make solid contact and score.  Where we live, I don't play much golf in the Winter so sometimes it takes a while for the game to come back, but I usually don't experience what I did.

When I got back from the trip, I went over to the range at our club and took 1 club, my sand wedge and spent 20 minutes working it out.  After spending a bit of time working on it, I discovered what my problem was... ball positioning.  I had the ball too far forward in my stance which was causing me to catch the ball on the up swing rather than the down swing causing me to blade the ball.

I moved the ball back in my stance 6 to 8 inches and couldn't believe the difference in my contact and control.  Hard to believe that such a small adjustment would make that much of a difference.

As I reflect on this market and the frustration some are feeling, much like I was feeling on the course, I can't help but draw the analogy that something minor can change the whole program.

If you are experiencing frustration with what you are doing, or not doing, step back, take a look at it.... go to the range and work it out.  You will be amazed at the satisfaction when you finally"get it".

I have never played golf in my life. But I have always wanted to. I have a friend who goes every single weekend and during the week when time allows. He said it is addicting....Someday.Thanks, Keith

Clapping Hands So true... right on with the concept.  Maybe I need to go golfing more.

I believe this to be true. Most people get tunnle vision and can not see past it. Stepping back and looking in a different direction can do wonders.  Good post.

I experience something very similar with trap shooting.  A small adjustment to the position of the gun on the shoulder (and, thus, sight line) makes a huge difference.  We just have to keep tweaking it until it is right.  Great post...
