WHY WON'T CAR SALESMAN COME CLEAN?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

I learn as I go in life but when I come across a subject of interest, I research it even more... so I become familiar with it and it reduces stress when on the learning curve if I am to enter into it. I have bought many new cars in my lifetime and it is always an us versus them if you don't do your homework. The Internet today makes it easier. But those salesman?

ETHICS DOESN'T PAY BILLS

It doesn't matter how honest, forthright or transparent a buyer is when going into this arena. NO. It is the dealer and their representatives that need to exude this and make it their highest priority. The problem with ethics in this business is it doesn't pay the bills. Being crafty brings better results (?)

PREDATORS

You see there is an enormous overhead involved in running a dealership. It is no different that running a small business or household. Money must come in to offset the money going out. Salesman are told to get with it or get-going. Lack of skill and training makes some salesman turn into PREDATORS....

PREY

Well that means that we become PREY and I wonder why all this is allowed to be the approach in this business? I visited with three dealers and their staff and two of them sounded like a hypnotic recording using all the pretty words, manners and etiquette but struggling while they do. Why is that?

THE DINNER BELL?

This reminds me of the wildlife specials where some wildebeest gives birth and the baby is a cute newborn and is trying to stand up and suckle. The mother is happy, the herd is at peace but the lions watching are licking their chops. They cant decide to feed on mom or the newborn. Maybe both?

BEING UPFRONT

Because I respect people who work on commission as well as people in general, I always come clean when it is my turn to do so. Hello, I am a buyer and I need to see this product and have it come in on my budget etc. That's how I begin. If responded to in like kind, good business can come out of it

WE MAKE IT COMPLEX

If not, we all go on the defensive. Trust never takes place and it becomes a chess game where one move can cost you the game. Why? Why games at all? The basics are not hard to understand or practice. It is when we toy with them, they fail and become tainted. Buying and selling is not complex unless...?

INNOCENCE IS COSTLY

Income, credit scores, financing and what one can afford is not rocket scientist. What happens is that this information, when given innocently, is used not to help you, but to help the less than honest dealers and their reps do what is best for them and not you. The average buyer doesn't see this until afterwards

LOOK FOR HONESTY

The third dealer I contacted was told what I wanted, when, how and asked by me... can you do this or not period! To my surprise, I was told yes and then I was asked two questions and we arrived. The next steps after were easy peasy nice and breezy for both of us. Is there any other way? Should there be?

NOT A LOVE A DRIVEN BUSINESS

If you stop and look at the Real Estate business and all the licensing requirements, education and all the classes necessary plus the continuing and ongoing verification's, you can see a standard in place designed to protect the consumer and keep agents at a minimum bar of practice. It is not a perfect system...NO, but it works as represented if followed. If not, it can end the career of the agent...FAST

I wouldn't mind see the car business become regulated by license and ethics...I wouldn't mind at all but I bet they would!

Richie good morning.  I must humbly disagree to some degree.  I see many agents constantly pushing the limits of ethics and crossing the line.  Ironically two new clients I met with yesterday had two agents that had given them a very sour taste in their mouth towards our field.  While there are two sides to every story I feel these kids, first time buyers, referred from a fantastic client, were sought after strictly for the $$$ (commission) and not their best interest.  I have seen it many times in the past, and know it is on going no matter how we try to dress it up with smoke and mirrors.  It boils down to the quality of the person representing,  not the profession itself.  "Mark my Words!"    Make it a great Sunday.  Mark

Richie - You can find unscrupulous people in every industry in every walk of life, no matter what sort of licensing or certification is required. However, certain industries seem to attract those types.

Car sales persons have a limited inventory to sell, and that's it. It's similar to real estate inventory. We can't sell what isn't available. However, I agree, with Barbara Todaro try suing a car sales person or dealer, and you won't get far.

I agree with you agents can lose their license fast if they are dishonest.

When i bought my new car last fall, i researched it a great deal, i knew what i wanted, i knew what price i should pay and went to the dealer. Walked the lot, found my car and color i wanted. When it came time to negotiate i told them up front this s what i want, i have 30 minutes, after that i have to leave whether you have an answer of not. He moved pretty quickly, came back with a counter and i added a tow package to what i wanted, he came back again playing and i stood up to leave, the manager swept in quickly to accept my price and extras i wanted.

My friend Scott...it goes on this less than honorable dynamic in this business. I just closed a deal and when going to pick up the car, was told the alarm system is extra. Pay or we take it out...TAKE IT OUT and live with this tactic from hell is how I left them....
